I have a Hero 616 that I got from our previous Pay it Forward thread from last year. I just don't like the fact that the clip is misaligned with the cap -__- I have obsessive compulsive disorder and whenever I use that pen, I find myself trying to fix it -___- If anyone has any actual help they can give me on how to make that clip straighter, I'd be much obliged... Anyyyywaayysss... I think Jinhao and Hero are the same company, right? Maybe that's why there are so many Chinese Parker 51 replicas..

The above shall not be construed as legal advice under any circumstances

what is all this talk about protectors? what the heck do they do anyway? i thought you removed them to fill?

From inquisitive newbie coveter to utilitarian (ultra) fine point user to calligraphy flourisher. The life cycle of a fountain pen lover.

the metal sleeve or protector has a little pressbar that you can push to compress the sac during filling, but they do a lousy job. i just pull them off and throw em away.

Quick update received my 321 on Saturday have been using it everyday since.

Agree about the filling system, I threw away the metal sleeve and all seems ok now.

I like the tight clip never falls out of my pocket.

Your review is spot on about this pen as a writer I find it great to use and writes really well.

Thanks again for pointing me in this direction.

Great review thanks, I've just ordered a couple £1:95 free postage worth a try.

I did, too. They came this morning. Rather impressed, and terrific value for money. Compare well to my Hero 100 in the writing experience. I actually have them beside me now. The burgundy-barrelled 321 filled with Diamine Oxblood, and the Teal/Green-barrelled with Diamine Twilight.

I was all set to order some Hero 616 Jumbos...now I think I'll get a couple of these instead.

Who am I kidding, I'll have both at some point

So, how would you rate Jinhao 321 vs Hero 100? If you had to choose one, which would win out.

I have a Hero 100, but it has a hair line crack on the section which leaks ink so I shelfed it. The super tight cap probably caused the crack. I was rather fond of the that pen until I noticed my fingers were getting stained each time I used it.

Been thinking about getting another or another better equivalent. Now, I hear about the Jinhao 321.... choices...

Thanks for the review - nice pictures! I've got one of these 321's, I quite like it. The cap clip on mine hasn't got teeth, and the clip is pretty loose. They're slightly shorter and a lot thinner than a 616 jumbo. It's one of those pens I can leave standing upright for months, yet it will start up again immediately.

The Jinhao 321 seems to be quite a rare beast now, I cannot even find one in Taobao and that might mean something.

About the cracked section phenomenon common to Hero 100s: all these 100s carry lifetime transferable warranty but they have to be returned to Hero's service department in Shanghai for that. Again at Taobao I have seen a few vendors offering replacement sections (and tools for disassembly) which claim to be factory original, but take a step back you can say it's not much of a reassurance of quality :headsmack:

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Maybe they renumbered, but when I look up the Jinhao 321 at e.g. Aliexpress, I get a different pen. Looks great, by the way.

I would say the pen in this review is a Jinhao 325.

Also - most Jinhao pens seem to have dropped in price. I got a beautifull 321 for and a perfect writing X450 for prices around $4,- each

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
