Visconti Homo Sapiens M Nib

I have a Homo Sapiens pen with a fine nib. I love the way the pen looks, feels and writes. My only complaint is that there seems to be a problem with ink leaking from the point where the nib and section meet. I usually get a small ink stain if I hold the pen right at the bottom of the section. This problem has manifested itself on two different pens. Is this a design issue? Anybody else have this problem?

I had issues with ink sweating at the bottom of the section too, and many others have complained about the same issue with the Homo Sapiens. But after unscrewing the nib, giving it a good clean and putting it back with a bit of silicone grease around the threads, as suggested by Bryant and others, it's been behaving well for a couple of months now without any any leaks.

I have the same problem. The pen is sweating above the section and it's unusable. Every time I uncap the pen, is a lot of ink leaking. How you guys solved this problem?

Great review and great pen. I have the M nib and its one of my favourites.

Fountain pens aren't a collection, it's an insatiable obsession!

Geez really? I know they are about $750 from pen city but 900 bucks? I'm waiting on mine to come in the mail.

Also EVERYTHING in Australia is bloody overpriced. I try to get what i want off ebay and even uk stores because its just wayyyyy cheaper even with postage. (i swear their postage is cheaper as well)

Nice review. I have the 1.3 stub and after some initial hickups it is now a great pen.

The nib is "soft" but I have seen warnings NOT to use it as a flex-pen. Too much preasure was reported to be dangerous for the nibs health (splined tines)

I know this from first hand experience. I flexed the Homo Sapiens and I dovetailed the nib.

The pen I write with, is the pen I use to sign my name.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
