Todays finger mishap would be:

Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki Yo (Emptying an M800)

J Herbin Cafe des Iles (Emptying a Scriptorium Idyll and filling same M800)

Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare (Filling above Scriptorium Idyll)

Note to self: Avoid ink change after two glasses of red wine

Piston failure. Ink burped out of the top of pen and ran down my knuckles.

Nextdoor neighbour thought I'd had a serious accident!

Apocryphal: A young man approached the great English painter William Mallord Turner to apply for an apprenticeship; Turner examined the young man's hands and said "how can you be an artist your hands are clean".

I put a little notch in the nib so I could get automatic drop shadows.

I even have a sample with the aforementioned splatter :)

That's excellent! Nice work.

Bookbinders Red Belly Black, wiping off the neck of the bottle, then washing out the cap which had a thick coating all inside around the threads. I must say, it washed off pretty easily.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

For me, it's Noodler's Kung Te Cheng. Love the color, but had forgotten just how mischievous this ink can be....

Diamine Dark Green. Took some photos of a pen inked with the stuff, and made some careless movement... Good news: the pen is safe, and the ink is perfectly washable.

Practice, patience, perseverance

I think we need a new thread: What Color Are Your Cat's Toe Beans Today?

My fingers are clean, but ...

This is Jasper Goodkitty. Jasper likes to play in wet sinks and wet showers and then jump up on his mommy's desk and walk across her journal pages.

Doesn't the Waterman Inspired Blue look lovely on his little white paw?

Okay, that is the cutest thing I've seen today. I'm going home to paint my kitty. Oh wait, he's solid black. I better go get the white stray we used to call Snowflake, I'll call him inkspot. JK about inking my kitty, not about how cute your kitty is.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

This is from a few days back, from an ink experiment. Waterman inspired/caribbean blue.

Thank you, ma'am! Jasper is a Humane Society rescue, and the light of my life. I went into Petsmart with a friend to get food for her dogs, and he reached through the bars of his cage and adopted me.

You don't get to choose a kitty. You get appointed to keep it in the lifestyle to which it would like to become accustomed. In return you get purrs, warm laps and kitty hairs in your tea/coffee.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
