So, a friend of mine from India is coming to the states in a few weeks. What pen stuff should I ask him to buy / bring back for me?? I need to be quick as he is heading somewhere before he departs for the States.

Cheers-

Hi,

A clear Dollar pen demonstrator, from Pakistan.

There are some nice looking Indian pens that are eye droppers.

Look them up. On the search section.

If he's a good friend, and lives near a big city, you could ask him to look in old pen shops for old name pens.

There is a lucky fella that lives in India, who has found some good old pens, "cheaply" in old, small shops. You should read his posts too. I don't unfortunately remember his name.

That might give you an idea of what could be available.

Perhaps you should send him some cash.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Which city/place in India does he live in? Ask him to get you a couple of bottles of FP ink: Camel Royal Blue, Chelpark Royal Blue, Camel Violet, Quink Black(made in India, very nice ink, different darker shade from the imported ones).

Also Camlin and Wality Fountain pens if he can find them.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

A bottle of Bril Blue fountain pen ink. A friend gave me a small vial of this ink and I like it very much — a lovely color, and well behaved in both vintage and modern pens. :)

Camel fountain pen ink! It's difficult to ship but easy to carry in your luggage.

Any specific colors?

Some good garam masala and curry paste. Those Indian kick-ass hot peppers are good too.

Yes yes yes! But I would stick to bringing in dry goods (curry powder etc) - you don't want him to be strip-searched at customs!

2. Deccan Diplomat FP in Green/Black

3. Wality 69TL FP (any color)

4. Dollar Demonstrator FP (any color)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
