Notice To 300 Pre-sale Twsbi Diamond 530 Owners

Recommended Posts

I received my pen today. I'm very impressed, overall. My pen, however, does have the leaky piston problem. I just sent an email to Speedy about it. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention so quickly and for providing a quick fix.

I just received my Diamond 530 today.

+1 on having the problem, and

+1 on the thanks to Speedy for proactively raising the issue and offering replacement parts (versus having to send the pen in for service.)

Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

I'm in the process of composing and email right now. I noticed that mine was leaking there and thought it was just suppose to be that way. I also found some crack in the plastic around the blind cap. I've tried to get some pictures of those and will also send them. I look at this as being a beta tester and it's great fun!

Hello Speedy,

I received my two FP today (a EF and a M nib). Thank you for the warning about the possible seal leaks. I filled both pens with water to test this. The EF seems fine, but the M shows a drop of water behind seal 1 immediately.

I'll put the pens on my desk nib facing upward for a while 'to let the seals leak' and report back what the results are.

First impressions of the pens are very positive. The pen is heavier and bigger than I thought (and that's a good thing!). This is a decent pen to hold and write with. I'm waiting for some special ink to test writing with it.

Thank you for a beautiful pen and the best of services you provide!!

I got my two pens yesterday and, very sadly, both of them have leaks - one spectacularly and very messily so, the other only past the first seal.

However, I contacted Speedy and replacement parts are already in the post to me today, sent by a lovely lady named Rebecca. I am extremely impressed with the customer service and communication by both Speedy and Rebecca and I'm sure that I will be equally impressed with the pens once they are working properly (or at all in the case of one).

I think the pens are fabulous to look at and to hold - the right length, girth and weight to use unposted. I'm using the one with the not messy leak (so far) and it is lovely to write with too. I filled it with the new Sailor Souten (Summer Sky) blue ink and it looks gorgeous! Love demonstrator pens so much and the TWSBI is a very nice example of the type.

Speedy, mine leaks badly enough that I'd be afraid of the ink leaking out the blind cap, so I shan't be using the pen to its fullest capacity for a while. ;) However, I have been using it as a dip pen with Private Reserve Copper Burst, and find the (fine) nib to be quite smooth. (I gave one of the tines the barest push to align them...alignment was off just a wee tiny bit.)

I keep checking your ebay site daily, eager to order another 530, this time with a bold nib, perhaps?

Speaking of nibs, I like the design; not too big, not too small, not too flashy. Nice shape.

Looking forward to a black and gold version, too (if not the 530, maybe the vac-fill?).

Anyway, well done! :notworthy1:

I got your email with thanks. the crack was caused during metal ring assembly into the barrel end; if alighment was mis matched, some minor sign of cracking may occur. it is being noticed and cautioned.

@Speedy:

Will the pens offered in the eBay store be free of these leaks?

Thanks

The seal leakage was caused by out of spec. parts. due to the softness of the piston, it is very difficult to measure for incoming inspection, and during pilot run stage no parts of these was detected, so we were too worryless.

The designed dimension on this version is correct. if the parts were made correctly no leakaging should be happen. I noticed these sealing lines are thinner then other product of the same mechanism and brought this out to my RD. He explained thin sealing line can seal better than thick line, because difficult to match all surfaces of two parts that contact each other. thick contact may in turn causes deform of the parts then crate the leak. Let me share you the truth now, this theory is ture on hard material but may not be ture on soft material. (you pay to learn).

another reason he use thin line design is that, less contact, less deform, less friction, less need for silicone lubrication, less maintenance. Make sense, isn't it.

Pen will be selling on ebay now are with current design and 100% water tested. it will be very lucky to get a leak pen again. If you get leak pen I will send you new version parts later and a surprise gift for you, cross my fingers don't let this happen, please.:roflmho:

OK, we are now making test on new version piston with minor dimention change to increase the contact line; make it thicker. We should have good result in short short time

When I learned one of the pen is leaking badly (most of your leakage are minor), I feel really sorry so I decide to send out tested seal of current version for repair. I still like to give you guy new version piston later on to save any possible trouble in the future.

Dear 300 Pre Sale pen Owners,

The pens are on their way to your hands, I hope you will enjoy them after receive.

The pens were made while I was away in Japan trip then sent out to you immediately after they were completed. After my return I grab a latest pen from the production line, check the whole pen by myself, unfortunately I found this pen has minor leaking on the piston sealing between line1 and line2 (pls refer attached photo, this photo shows the worst result it developed after I fool around it a lot). This is not acceptable by me, definitely will not by you.

This leakage on line 1 is not going to cause any writing problem, or ink storage problem, but it looks un-pleasant.

Further checking on existing pen on hand, we found only a small percentage of the pens has this situation, majority of the pens are ok.

The cause of this leakage was due to unqualified piston seal; some of them has smaller diameter then the spec. Actually the diameter of this very soft seal is almost not possible to be measured due to its softness. Batches of sample we made before did not show clearly the line 1 seal leakage issue, so no pre-inspection before assembly on this parts has been defined on the SOP. Since this find out, we add the in process checking on semi assembled barrel with clear water testing to prevent it from further happening. In the meantime some modification on the seal ring size will be applied; parts with new diameter is being made for testing. p.s. the qualified seal in original design is functioning well without problem.

I feel sorry and apologize for this line 1 leakage will happen on some of the pen you will receive. It is my fault. if you find it happen on your pen please send me an email ( speedy@twsbi.com ) , I will send you new parts for replacement. In the meantime you can still write with it without problem.

Any comments on this pen please do not hesitate to let me know, so we can make further improvement to your wishes.

Best regards

speedy

Speedy

Just for information...

Initially my pen did not leak......I did the water test......no leak......I filled the pen with Pelican Blue/Black ink and did some test writing to check the nib......no leak......

I put the pen back in it's original box for a couple of days, (stored flat in a drawer, no futher use of the pen) and then the ink started to leak past the first seal. (exactly as you describe above)

(I have already emailed you.......and you have already replied so no worries on that score

I received my first pen as part of the original 300. It has worked fine without sign of leaking until today - nearly two weeks. This evening I now notice two small ink leaks past the first seal line. I have just received another pen that I ordered directly from twsbi.com. I water tested it and have found it leaks significantly past the first seal. Email sent to Speedy reporting the problems. Obviously from the experience of my first pen, the fault may take some time to become apparent.

Mine's got the seepage between lines in the piston. Glad you caught this one and I look forward to the parts. Happy to see you standing behind your product with pride.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
