The Parker Vector

There are some Vectors for sale at a ridicously low price, but with, I think, a sticker all around cap and barrel commemorating the UEFA Portugal 2004 on the net. Can the sticker be taken off? What colour would it be under it?

Ruth, havent you seen a Vector Caligraphy set?

I have now! I picked up a 4 nib unit set about 3 years ago -- that post you were quoting is from 2012! But so far I have only used the F italic (the set came with F, M. B and BB -- marked as X, IIRC -- nib units, a converter, and some cartridges). It's a UK made set that came in a really nice tin, that I picked up on eBay.

I can only comment on what I see in the UK, where the Vector is on sale in all of our supermarkets, I can't remember when it wasn't.

The choice is fairly limited though, black or blue, sometimes red, and the all-metal version in a few other high street shops, and always with a medium nib.

I believe these are made in France, current price for the plastic barrel version is around £10, and about £15 for the metal version.

I suppose these prove to be a steady seller, at a reasonable price.

Yes, Vectors are decent writers, very dependable and cheap

I have a couple of them in M and F and one X

Their quality has not decreased significantly over time, and the price has stayed low....

However, there are a lot of knock offs in ebay that sell ridiculouslky cheap but the nib is not nearly as good.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
