Really? The pen in question is a model 145, or Chopin, designed as a C/C filler. The modern 144 Classique is a C/C filler. The 147 Traveller is a cartridge filled pen. There are numerous C/C fillers of the late 60s and 70s vintages.

So give us some facts...

In fact, as I see the photos, I see no major concerns for the pen except for the minor feeder case crack.

quote from finerpointz, ebay seller about the 145.

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Montblanc-Mont-Blanc-Meisterstuck-P145-145-Fountain-Pen-/350274984029?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item518e04185d

About the Pen

This newly designed 145 replaces the older 144 version and is slightly larger than the Classique size fountain pen but retains the same piston converter filling system which allows for optional use of ink cartridges.

The cap uses a twist on mechanism and both barrel and cap are made of Montblanc's signature jet-black precious resin trimmed with three platinum-plated rings and the world recognized Montblanc white star. Platinum plated clip on barrel is printed with the pen's Individual Serial Number and Germany, and the underside has Pix printed.

The nib is hand-crafted 14 karat gold (575) with Platinum inlay.

anyone have a piston convertor that i may compare to??? thankz.... sorry for causing so much trouble...

The photos give nib the appearance of less than MB quality engraving; nib appears "cheap". Please do the 'flashlight test' that will, if precious resin used for barrel, show that barrel glows ruby red...or not

Although I appreciate the seller's descriptions of pen, it has been noted that some sellers write untruths...they lie. Please do not misunderstand my opinion as meaning to impugn the integrity of Finerpointz(the seller)

I have the Chopin and this looks just like it. Those saying it is a fake do not seem to be familiar with the smaller size MB pens...

Long live the Empire!

Pen is real....

Go to the MB web site and compare pictures..... search Ebay for other Chopin's and look at those pics...

If in doubt...send the pen back..go to a MB Boutique and buy the Chopin there.

This will not necessarily prove anything as there are a number of manufacturers resins that glow ruby red in intense light. The barrel and cap of the 144 and 145 both have metal sleeves to assist in minimizing breakage of the resin. It is only in the 146s and 149s that the resin walls are thick enough to not require reinforcement.

I have never seen a Montblanc FP with "Pix" on it.

"Pix" is for mechanical pencils I believe.

OP's photo's are less than stellar and have glare/poor lighting

Never used that flashlight test on any of my pens...

There are Montblanc FPs with "Pix" on them as well. Not sure of the exact models/time period, but my modern 146 has it.

In the past 10-13 years PIX has been used on Montblanc FPs and other instruments as well.

However, I should say this. Pix was an original trademark for a push-mechanism pencil that MB bought in the early 30s. I have posted numerous times on the history of this trademark.

Hi WhiteOut,

Your pen does not look like a fake to me. There is this perception that a Montblanc is a magic wand. It is not. It's a well crafted pen.

Compare your pen to this:

When I bought my first 146, from a friend, I was so paranoid about fakes that I almost convinced myself that my future favorite pen was a counterfeit.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
