Board Maintenance And Upgrades!

Admin

Recommended Posts

Dearest Members of the Fountain Pen Nut House,

This morning the usual routine maintenance of our board took a bit longer than usual, basically because we also installed a service upgrade to several parts of the board software. Some of the fixes involved were specifically the IP.Mobile skin, for those of you using your Blackberries and iPhones to browse the Fountain Pen Network. We do hope that this will make your experience even better.

Invision also officially released an iPhone App to make browsing IP.Board forums like ours better and easier. The App is a free download: http://itunes.apple....d372597645?mt=8 Obviously, you will need an iPhone to make use of this app.

Enjoy!

Warm regards,

This account is unmanaged.

Thank you very much in advance.

Warm regards,

Thank you to all of the rarely seen (and whose presence is so well defined) individuals who administrate and manage this network. :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1: As recent events suggested,FPNers really are lost when the network misbehaves. :gaah:

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

Thanks for the explanation. I was a little concerned this morning when I saw the time for maintenance jump from 120 minutes to 270 minutes all of a sudden. Glad it wasn't anything terrible.

Yes, sorry for that:. The upgrade and full back-ups took a bit longer than anticipated :D.

I also want to express my gratitude to the tireless administrators here who do such a great job that mostly goes unnoticed and unappreciated. My hat is off to you all for the unpaid work you do on our behalf and for giving us a great place to congregate and discuss our favorite thing, namely fountain pens!

Thanks again

I want to add my thanks too. I enjoy visiting the site daily-- I mean hourly-- and learning from so many generous and knowledgable people. I have no idea how much work goes into maintaining this site, but I have to say you provide one of the best forums out there- on any topic!

The iPhone app works quite nicely in my experience and is free, unlike Tapatalk where you have to buy the version that lets you post. Also, it doesn't seem to interfere with being logged in on a computer (i.e., you can log in on your computer, post something from the app, and then not have to log in again, unlike if you log in from a different computer).

I noticed that the mobile view is only accessible after signing in. Is it possible to view the lo-fi version prior to this?

We found the setting for the mobile skin to be used/selected without logging in, so that should be available now. As to the Lo-Fi skin: that seems to have disappeared during the last upgrade. We'll have a look at it: it either is no longer supported, or it disappeared for unknown reasons. Either case means that it'll take a few days to find out exactly what the situation is and/or to remedy this.

Ok, Lo-Fi should be back again as well, and also available to Guests (i.e., when you don't log in, or aren't logged in yet).

Just check please if everything works ok; we had no time to check that yet.

Warm regards, Wim

thank you to all the hard-working admins!

i'm using lo-fi on my cell phone, but if i'm not logged in and access the website it automatically takes me to ip.board and not the lo-fi version.

is there anyway to access fpn so that it always loads lo-fi automatically (other than being logged in w/the remember me option, as my phone doesn't always remember me lol)??

thanks, admins!

Hi Immoteus,

Thanks, the mobile version is now functioning for guests. But the redirect page seems to lead to an 404 on my BB (after signing in).

Which redirect page? And could you maybe make a screendump just before it happens, and send that to me?

Before you do, could you please empty your browsercache, delete temp files, cookies etc., after signing out from FPN, close the browser, start it up again, and sign in from scratch?

TIA!

Warm regards, Wim

I have noticed when I go here:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=members&area=profileinfo

I see some double text box's. It is under EditMyProfile->Profile->ChangeProfileInformation. Just a FYI but it seems benign as I have filled both in and no major problems, some developer was tired and using copy pasta.

Thanks,

One of those fields is for comment approval, and the other for friend approval, so although they look very similar, they allow for different functionalities.

Hello,

I just tried IP.Board as iPhone App. But when I'm signed in there is nothing to see in the content list. No content nothing :-(

When I'm logged off I see the content list of this forum and all content but I could not use "view new content" and the messenger.

I would prefer you would add the tapatalk extention, too. The tapatalk App works without any problems in other forums I use.

Regards,

Tom

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
