Hello everyone,

 

when turning the piston knob it just keeps rotating until its out, anyone knows whats the problem? the pen is Omas CM LXXXVIII (NoS) i have never inked it.

Most likely the anti rotation tab/ key in the barrel has sheared off.

Hello hari, thank you for fast reply, the piston does not get pulled out even with mild force pulling.

You cant pull out piston from knob end. Only the knob will unscrew and detach from that end of barrel.

 

To remove piston you must unscrew the section after properly dry heating it. Once section is removed, the piston will come out of section end.

I took off the piston and this is how things look like, i did not find any broken pieces.

I dont see any but also no evidence of it being there? its all clean in there.

There should be a key in there. It is absent. If the pen was recently purchased maybe its time to contact the seller?

ok its not there, and i can see what you mean because i removed the piston for the Omas Ferrari i have as well to see how things should be, and I see the square knob you mentioned.

Now the new problem is, i cant return the piston system for the Ferrari, the knob does not rotate, what are the steps?

the piston should be in (near the knob unit) or should it be up? the section should be screwed in place then try to fit the piston knob or its screwed in place after the knob is set?

Insert the piston shaft from section side. The piston seal should be towards the section. Take care to gently engage the slot on the piston shaft to the square key. It will break if forced.

This may be the most valuable thread I have ever encountered anywhere. Thank you!

 

Here is my question. I have a 1992 full size Paragon who's collar broke after many years of use. It is one of the old collars, of course, and I have been expecting it. So much so that a couple of years ago I purchased a replacement collar knowing this day would come. I am comfortable with taking the pen apart & putting it back together as you have demonstrated in this thread. My need is to know the specific process I should follow for the reassembly of the nib/feed/collar/section.

 

1. Should I mount the nib and feed into the collar BEFORE OR AFTER it is screwed into the section? Would you mind detailing the steps that are taken to do this successfully and well?

 

2. I note the two small "slots" on the collar. Is there some sort of a tool which I will require in order to do this assembly procedure? If so, what should I use?

Nib installation is a tricky thing and there is a real risk of nib feed sleeve or pen damage.

 

Keeping that in mind, Here is a brief outline of what I would do:

- [ ] First measure and make note of the exposed length of nib.

- [ ] Note the existing orientation of the sleeve slots to the slit of the nib.

- [ ] remove the existing sleeve

- [ ] Place the nib carefully over the feed and align it properly. Grip the aligned nib feed between thumb and forefinger.

- [ ] Insert the tail of the feed into the sleeve aligning the slots in the sleeve along the nib slit or as it was originally.

- [ ] Now thread the sleeve into the section lightly.

- [ ] Now push the nib and feed in together to proper depth inside the section.

- [ ] Thread the nib unit in finger tight. No need to torque it down.

- [ ] Ensure the present nib exposed length does not exceed what was noted in the first step.
