Parkervacumatic Lamp Desk Base

Does anybody else here have a Parker Vac lamp desk base like this one, or know somebody who does?

I'm trying to determine whether the white color on the lamp's support arm is the original color...

It looks like original baked enamel, no brush marks, etc. But the white is like you'd find on a kitchen stove or fridge from the time period, "kinda feels" like it should be copper or black in color...

I saw it on the bay, but I had just bought the one below, and couldn't really justify two!

I have never seen that particular model before. Mine has definitely been repainted:

...as one can see comparing it to Mr Rick Propas' lamp:

And Mr Ron Ricketts lamp:

And Mr Tsachi Mitsenmacher's:

Or the one current for sale on eBay (missing a panel):

... and another one:

I can't tell how this helps, but at least my guess is that Your's is the more uncommon one :-)

@ Tony/Vintage: Your (beautiful) Parker lamp was a "for professional use" point of sale display item, rather than a consumer market item like my Vac desk base lamp was. Though, as can be seen in the photos you attached, it does very well as a personal desk lamp too :-)

BTW, I have a further variant of the shop counter-top lamp similar to yours, and attach a photo below...

very nice memorablia

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Would you able to add a photo showing the wording on the tab at the rear of the brass cover/bottle hold-down? ("Flush pen in water before filling" with a white arrow pointing to the right?) I recently purchased a Parker lamp that uses the same walnut/brass base, but has a painted shade instead of brass. The brass on the base looks to be blackened with the wording painted on like yours, but the entire lamp has 6 or 7 coats of paint and I'm pretty sure I'll to restore/redo all the wording.

Thanks,

Matt

That it's chipped or worn down to bare metal in places tends to indicate (to me anyway) that the color is original. It is a beautiful lamp. The cord appears to have been replaced though. I don't think that is a negative in any way.

I think I have a desk pen and holder that looks like that one (not the lamp, just a base with trumpet and pen) but mine isn't a vac, it's a duofold.

Hi Macquid: Regarding your Parker Vac lamp with pen holder, I have an example in my collection. Everything is identical, including the cream colored arm with base. Joe Nemecek

Just for comfirmation's sake: beside the monochrome image of that very set in the '38 catalogue, it says "Walnut Base. Metal Shade and Ivory Finish." $12.50 with a Challenger, $15.00 with a Junior Vac, $17.50 with the Major Vac, and it looks like you've got the Sealomatic bowl, too.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
