I just received a reply from Pilot that they are going to send me a replacement o-ring for my Custom Maple. Great after sales service by Pilot.

I received a replacement o-ring from Pilot. Yet again, an example of great after-sales customer service support. It seems this replacement o-ring fits the pen more sungly than the ripped one.

Hi,

I was always a big fan of the Pilot Custom pens. It's good to read this review, and I will use the word Scantling starting today. There is so much good information in this review, it's one of the most interesting reviews that I have read.

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

I just received my Custom Maple (Kaede). This is a great addition to my wooden pens (Yakusugi, Briawood and Tagayasan).

I am pleased with the grain patterns for my pen. The natural wood look is excellent to behold.

Great photography. Also, look at the barrel of 'yours', wood grains patterned like a fish fin.

Beautiful!! I'll sure have to forgo a pricey new pen & buy a macro lens to add to my 2 Canon lens

collection of a prime(50mm,1.4) & a zoom(28-135).As photography is about the object; the stuff

(gooda in hindi) between your ears;the lens & the light, mostly.

The feel of a wooden pen is different as I understand from my heavy E-Motion by FC. But, I will

not go for a pure wood pen as the temperature range in India is a broad zero degrees to just

below 50 degrees, with humid monsoons in between.

Poor liitle thing-a wooden pen in India.

Thank you for your efforts and nice pictures. The maple seems in the process of aging.

I think your maple will become darker and more beautiful in accordance with writing in

the near future.

Thank you Rokurinpapa. The maple is a very precious pen for me, a kind friend in Canada gifted it to me, I have kept it very safely.

Nice to see this thread - reminds me that I have this pen waiting for me web I return from holiday (it arrived the day before I was leaving, I didn't have the time to do anything with it).

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

Here is my another Kaede. This one is an F nib. A very smooth nib without being too slippery. I like the wood grains on this pen. Each pen is unique as no two pens share the same wood grains.

The Kaede nib. The Kaede's nib is one of the key elements which attracted me to this pen.

Resistance is futile.:) If you like a wooden pen (I think you do based on your other post), you won't be disappointed. The Pilot Kaede is not that expensive for such a unique pen with a great nib. The pen's size is similar to the Customs 742, which is just right for a comfortable grip.

A quick follow up. My Kaede with an M nib is still in my daily rotation. The balance of the pen is excellent and the nib behaves to perfection. I still have 2 other Kaedes stored in the pen case as back-ups.

I also bought one of these nice pens and I'm very satisfied. I do have a question, though: in your experience, does the wood ever gets shiny? I have a Sailor Hakone whose wood surface has become bright and shiny after a few weeks of usage. Do you think this will happen to the Maple Custom as well?

thansk,
Fabio

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
