Fake Solitaire Serial No. Pd1667619

Recommended Posts

There seem to be a few of these appearing on eBay but I haven't seen any reference to them on this forum. Hence this posting.

Have a look at this one: eBay 144 Solitaire

Note the following:

1. Silver metal cap bands.

2. Converter.

3. Pattern does seem to go right around the cap/barrel.

4. Excessive curve to top of clip.

However perhaps the most glaring error is in the serial number: PD1667619. The counterfeiters managed to get the font correct in the first two 6s but messed up the third one!! :ltcapd:

Good catch! Thanks for sharing!

Hopefully eBay will remove it soon!

For some one who researched...he don't know that 14K or 585 means gold; not plated. :headsmack:

Except on his pen...it means what it is "gold wash." If that.

Raising this issue again

I think this latest batch offered for sale on ebay are the same type of fakes, as the serial number I can just see in the pictures 1666858 seems to come up on a lot of searches.

The seller failed to answer questions about the serial numbers as well?

The quality seems very good, albeit, I do not think it is a Solitaire design I recognise, which was the first warning sign.

The converter is also a huge give away - surprised they included a photo of it!

They're getting better at faking the nibs. Much closer than others I've seen but still sloppy on the spacing and cut.

The nib is signed 14K, and I think the solitaire model has a 18 K nib. Is that correct?

This pieces are very well made, and it is very easy sell it like authentic MB's.

Could be either.

The box is also counterfeit.

I will point out, at least to a certain extent, Authentic Montblanc Pens can come with the pattern not wrapping around the cap of the pen. They leave it smooth for Monogramming, at least on the cap but I am not sure about the barrel.

Seems to be inspired in the pure silver pattern, that one has the same pattern on the entire pen though, even the top of the cap. Also i think only the pinstripe pattern has a smooth section on the cap for engraving

Just out of sheer curiosity, assuming you paid fake price for one of these and got it for the price of a cup of coffee, has anyone ever tried one? I guess my question is this: is it so fake that it does not even function as a pen?

I have a fake 144/145 type and it functions perfectly well as a FP. So I see no reason why this one should not do so. If you think of it as a Chinese FP and not a Montblanc FP, then that's fine. That is how it will perform

That's a good question. I don't know why, but people do tend to bid on these things.

Here's another one. Please use the report item link.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
