We will be introducing the New Postal Pen at the Triangle Pen Show, in Raleigh, North Carolina, over the weekend of June 4-6. These bulb-filling pens are a product of the Gate City Pen and Ink Company. Entirely made in the U.S.A. except for their JoWo steel nibs in F, M, and B, they feature barrels in either transparent amber or transparent red. Please note that the advertisement above shows a vintage Postal Pen because we don't yet have the first production pieces of the New Postal (which is an almost exact reproduction of the 1920s classic).

Plans for a non-translucent version? Perhaps flex nib? :puddle:

I wonder why it is that, since people seem willing to pay a premium for clear demonstrators, manufacturers keep coming out with colored demonstrators? I'd love have one of these Postal pens, but not in transparent amber or red--just plain clear please. Thanks!

This seems to be posted in two different places here, so I'll add my two cents worth both places. I dont understand why, since people seem willing to pay a premium for clear demonstrators, that manufacturers keep coming out with colored demonstrators. I would spend money on one of these Postal pens, but only with a clear polished (inside and out) barrel. Thanks!

I don't believe that this is intended to be a new-ish style production piece. If it's an "almost" exact reproduction, then that explains the color choices. As far as I know, Postals were only available in red and amber window sections.

Wow, after Bantams and InkVues, I had pretty much assumed I was never going to buy myself a bulb filling Postal...

Is it safe to assume the transparent barrel will be made of sterner stuff (acrylic?) than the original? For certain things (e.g. Parker 61s and 21s plastics, Waterman barrel ends), I'm willing to trade authenticity for durability.

<-- Eagerly awaiting more info.

"No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize that as a thinker it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusions it may lead. Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study, and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think." -J.S. What is the price going to be?

These pens are so new that we don't yet have a definitive price. We are expecting to bring it in under $200.00.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
