I am relative newcomer to the wonderful world of pen collecting with a special interest in vintage pens. I am interested in starting a pen club here in my home town of beautiful Lynchburg, Virginia. I would certainly be interested in hearing from anyone who would be available to join. Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Joe.

Good luck, you are a little too far for me up here in Arlington, but I hope you get a good solid group of people together.

When going on a journey always take your pen.

Hey Guys, I live in Lynchburg and have been going to the meetings of the Roanoke Pen Club for several years now. There have been more of the members in Roanoke than Lynchburg, but we have had three from Lynchburg, but one has moved away last year. At the last meeting Madigan Cochran joined us and we had a great time. I also don't mind getting together in Lynchburg too. Here is a link to Chad Trent's web site for the Roanoke Club, he is keeping a list of people interested in the club. Click on the mailing list to get onto our emails.

We also have a Google Group for Roanoke Pen Club: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/roanoke-pen-club

Here is the link to my FPN notice for the last club meeting:

This is just great hearing from both of you. You can Private Message me and leave me your email addresses if you want, but if you sign up on Chad's web page you'll get our notices too.

If we meet in Lynchburg we'll need a place we can enjoy our pens and inks for several hours, and I have not come up with a place yet, as we did not have enough people. With you guys we have enough. Maybe the Lynchburg Public Library? I live out close to Concord/Rustburg if that's of any interest.

Joe, three of the Roanoke members have scads of vintage pens. All kinds. At the last meeting Katie had a new Vintage Gold Waterman ring pen with a wet noodle nib, restored and inked up. Old Esterbrooks, Parkers, Sheaffers, Onotos, a lot. I have mostly new pens but two Sheaffer Snorkel pens and a Crest Sheaffer Tuckaway pen, restored.

Great hearing from two more Lynchburg Pen Lovers!

I'm part of the Roanoke club that graystranger mentioned. I started it a couple years ago but have had some other stuff going on so Tom has taken over it for me.

We would love to have you guys come to Roanoke for a meeting. The web site hasn't been updated yet with our next meeting because we haven't picked a date but as soon as we do we will let everyone know.

I will be in Martinsville the 2nd week of May, and will be there one week. Anything happening during that time?

Hi Helen350, we aren't planning ahead that far in advance. But, I'll PM you and leave my email address. You can let us know in April which Saturdays (or Sundays if needed) are good for you and we can plan a meeting. We are very informal. Go to Chad's website and sign up for notices, that way Chad will have you in the roster for notifications.

21kKyler, I sent you a Private Message about a Lynchburg group, giving you my email address. You can check it at the top of any of the FPN pages when you are logged on, it is the envelope icon at the top.

I did not notice until today that the original post for this topic was made over 6 years ago! So, the poster is probably not looking at this topic anymore. He joined in 2010 and has only made 3 posts on FPN in that time, so he is probably long gone. However, we could get together, and I'll be going to the Roanoke Pen Club meetings and you can ride with me.

Too far out for me to make plans, but I'm sure I'll be around during that time. Let me or graystranger know when you're coming to town.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
