Noooo !

Please continue to. It's not a competition, there are no league tables, it's a safe & friendly place for anyone and everyone to post. :)

It's more like doodles. I'll sleep over it.

@Astron, I'd love to see any doodles you're willing to post :). What I like most about forums instead of e.g. blogs is that you can see how a bunch of different people do things. I think even the crudest sketches (not to suggest that your doodles are crude!) are interesting and expressive. And I think everyone I've seen here is friendly and encouraging, which always helps (or else I'd probably never have posted myself...).

And don't forget that she'd be carrying a fountain pen (or six) -- all filled with murky green ink.... ;)

ETA: For some reason the turn in this conversation made me think of an old cartoon done by a guy my husband used to work with years ago when we lived in MA:

Scanned a few more from my plein air practice sessions. Unfortunately, FPN seems to be having server/network/something issues, so I'm having trouble uploading them. Hope the website goes back to normal soon!

Looking at these, it seems I've been largely unsuccessful in my attempts to loosen up. Hmm...

Love it! I can recall wishing for similar dinosaur interventions during class in the third grade  Good to see they are still in high demand.

Combination of a sketch and text (a-la lettering) to create a "product badges" in old school style. In the basis was an oil painting "wolf" by S I M U L.

One use variant is blind embossing on kraft paper:

All three plein air sketches look great on my screen.

Energetic, pulling me into the scenes.

Thank you!

Very funny...and on-target.

I know the feeling you're describing, even if I'd be unable to draw such a charming dinosaur.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
