This thread is alive and kicking really well, so many various and interesting approaches and images!

I received today something that is not a fountain pen, but will be used alongside my Platinum 3776 SoftFine and Platinum Carbon Black ink. It is AKASHIYA SUMIIRO brush pen - waterproof and (at least to me) ideal companion for those who sketch with fountain pens and like to wash over with watercolors (or other FP inks). Here's a picture and link to my impressions:

Interesting. Are these refillable? I have a few of the cheap Kuratake eyedropper brush pens (got them with bottles of Noodler's Kung Te Cheng ink) and I had just been recommending brush pens to someone in another thread because that person was looking for a pen to use with highlighter ink.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

No, these are not refillable, at least not as they are. I had some luck filling other brushes like these by cutting off the top of the handle, dripping a bit of Platinum Carbon Black and taping it back. But it demands a bit of tinkering, if one is so inclined :-)

To use as highlighters, Aquash brush pen or similar are much better choice indeed, you are right.

This one is special because it is quite dry in comparison with other brush pens. That is important to me, and maybe to someone else who is looking for something like this, as I did for years by trying various brands.

If one is content with widely known types as Platinum or Kuretake, then this one is of little interest, as it is more expensive and non-refillable.

OMG, months have flown passed me this year. I missed Inktober and Fountain Pen Day altogether, and is it really December already???? Unbelievable.

This thread has been so very inspirational whenever I pop in to take a quick look. I admire everyone's work.

I haven't been doing much "art" with pen and ink lately, but this is one of the more recent ones.

We've missed you. :)

Thanks Tas, I saw your drawing of utility poles and power lines a couple of pages back, in your signature unique and eye-catching style. Amazing work!

Very nice linework.

Thank you Parker. I was trying to practice the precise placement of lines so that each line counts in the overall image. Copying older ink drawings helps me a lot, but I need to do more of them! I admire your commitment to developing your art even further. I really enjoy your use of colours in lines and in washes.

Thanks Andrew. Gibson's drawings were so very demonstrative of the style of the period, and I can't get over those huge hair do's! So much hair, and such sophisticated use of lines.

I loved looking at your Christmas cards. The recipients will be very lucky to have them.

I like your experiment in the new style. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
