FPN's PEN ART GALLERY

Ahmad, are you will not be offended if I say that instead of a lantern it would be more interesting to hang the sun there?

It would even have a deeper meaning.

Thanks.

Hello Andrew and thank you for your comment, the lantern goes with the crescent as its actually at night that "Eid" (which is the end of month of Ramazan) is declared when the crescent is seen in the skies (The crescent is "born" - thats the terminology we use).

Best regards.

Some more recent plein air sketches.

Swapped out a few inks in the palette again. Doyou isn't doing as well as I had been hoping--for such a dark ink, it doesn't leave much dye when evaporated. Definitely replacing it in the next rotation.

**THUD!**

Oh my goodness, was that my jaw hitting the floor?

Yup.

These are GORGEOUS!

And of course, I'm all curious as to how you did them. Inks in bitty vials and painted on the paper with a brush? Or were they housed in pens, laying down several lines and then diluted into paint with a water brush? Or ... OMG! That Turkish Coffee painting, in particular, just makes me drool~! The filigree/lattice on the side panels alone makes me swoon!

Thank you so much for posting these. ^_^

Eeep, I think I need to go lie down .... I feel faint ...

My, this thread has grown! I was busy with work and decided to log back in today.

Here is a piece I was working on for three sessions spread over six months, this was mixed medium of Pointed Pen with India Ink, Uniball 005, Masuyama Needlepoint in a Fosfor Sandalwood. This is Gustav Doré’s illustration from “London: A Pilgrimage “. Doré and Blanchard Jerrold travelled to London and visited night refuges, opium dens, cheap housing, etc. as described by Dickens in “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”

Cross posted on my Instagram.

Six months? I believe it.

I don't know how Dore did it in his day and my hat's off to you, for doing this piece. Wow. Just ... wow!

I've been exercising my gothic script and thats where i've got so far.
Done with my trusty 1.1 stub Leonardo Momento Zero and Montblanc Red Fox
I would much appreciate criticism and tips on what i should be paying attention to get better!

My only suggestion is that you have to be a little more careful with the kerning (the spaces between letters). When I was taking calligraphy in college, the big issue for me was that -- and it will vary, not only between different hands but between individual letters. IIRC, you should have more space between a straight line letter (such as a lower case "t") and a round letter (such as an "o" or "e") that between two rounded letters; and the most between two straight letters. The spacing will not only make it easier to read, but also just visually look better on the page. But to do Gothic right, everything has to be really evenly spaced -- to have the spaces between (and within) letters the same width as the strokes themselves.

Gothic hands are a major PITA because so many strokes are verticals and you have to get the spacing just so (I actually find uncials much easier to do, myself).

Thanks man! I've been thinking in getting a online class but havent made up my mind just yet.

About the kerning , I've heard about it but never tried looking for some theory. im surely going to make that now!

thanks so much :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
