Sometime last year, I was introduced to Deccan pens through this forum, primariliy by watching pictures and reviewes posted by Hari and Shrujaya. Since then I was in search for these pens. The problem is that they do not yet have website, however, I got a phone number for one of their shops in Hydrabad, India from Rahul on this forum. Thanks Rahul.

After talking to the owner of the shop the first time, he appointed one on his nephew, Farukh, to help me out on my order. He was extremely helpful in processing my order and helping me selecting my pens. Since he was out of stock on the pens that I was looking for, pens were ordered. I was ordering pens for myself as well as for my friend. We both wanted engraving on our pens, so there was another delay in the work. After a month pens were ready. Then problem was to bring them here. He was ready to mail, but I wanted to be safe. One of my class mates from MBA school is from Hydrabad, and his family was returning back from India. He managed to pay for the pens and bring them here. Finally after a few months, I received my pens in the month of March.

It took me a while to try them all and get their pictures. Today I got few minutes and sunny day to get some light in my room for better pictures. I am posting each pen and its pictures individually.

I am missing my Deccan Masterpiece and another pen, which are at home. I will post their pictures next time.

Here is Deccan Diplomat. This is Deccan's medium size pen with a converter. The converter is a vaccumatic. This is the only pen of which cap snaps lock, rather than twist open because of threads. It's length is slightly longer than a medium size pen, but fits well in my hand. It is made out of hard rubber (ebonite) and it is very light in weight. The gold clip goes well with its two town nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
