Hello from Sardinia, ITALY!!!

Hi to everyone,

10 minutes ago I found this site and because of I'm a pens collector (95% are fountain pens) and I was very happy to find a collectors' network. Now I'm one of you.

My real name is Andrea and I'm a male. I know that someone of you could consider it funny but Andrea came from greek name Andreas that means soldier, strong man, so in Italy and in Greece, it is a male name (and in Italy we consider funny that in english Andrea is a female name :) ).

I'm 31 years old and I'm a managerial ICT engineer. I live in Cagliari, in the South Sardinia, that is the second big island of the Italian Mediterranean sea, between Sicily and Corse.

I've got a modest collection of pens, around 50 pieces, some of them I bought broken or dirty and I repaired them successfully with an ultrasonic bathtub and fresh distilled water (it needs a lot of time).

My very big problems are to buy new holders or display boxes for my pens, and to create a good database, with lots of fields and photographic fields too.

I'm going to use all of my pens, one by one, so I can put a field "comment" or "personal experience" in my database. I know that in this way the pen will not be more mint, but this is a personal collection, not thinking about selling my pens. By now I've just used/tested 10 pens, and my favourite is Pelikan M150, that I'm still using.

I think I introduced completely myself, so If you have some questions, don't be afraid to tell me.

Ok, so please forgive my english but it is a long time I don't use it spoken, and writing uses the same rules.

Bye

Welcome Andrea!

I too am starting to build a full database of all my pens (around 300 items). You might like to look at this topic here which I found useful. I have downloaded Ray's free software and hope to start using it soon.

Good luck,

Andy

Welcome Andrea.

You'll find a friendly bunch here.

Looks like Ray may have saved us all a lot of work (thanks for pointing it out Andy).

Welcome to FPN, Andrea. You've got a good start on that collection. By doing your own repair work you ought to feel even more proud of your pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
