Twsbi Diamond Piston-Filling Pen Presale

Recommended Posts

It seems that the TWSBI sale has been more popular than expected. Hopefully this translates to a very good initial run when it actually hits the market.

Congrats and Kudos to mahkie and speedy in their work for this preorder. May the plunger/vacuum pen and ink pot ventures be as sucessful as this one.

Those who are interested in getting the pen can send an email to info@twsbi.com, along with the quantity, nib size, address and they will reply with a quotation of the final price.

The lady is really responsive, I sent out an email this morning, and within an hour I got the quotation, I was told I'll be given the tracking number tomorrow. Kudos to the amazingly responsive and fuss-free service!!

I'm from Asia, so do give allowance for the time difference if you're from somewhere else.

I received a mail through Paypal and from Mark with the tracking number. It was dropped at the post office in Taiwan on July 6th, at 18.39. On July 7th it was punt on a plain to Holland. I hope customs won't hold the parcel for two weeks. I could get it this weekend or on monday.

Now I have one problem to solve: what ink to use?

I'm thinking about:

- Mont Blanc Oyster Grey (I can get this in an other town: 40 km from here)

- Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue (saw this ink on a postcard I received, but can't find it here)

- Noodler's Ink Habanero (They never heard of Noodler's in the stores overhere :crybaby:)

- Noodler's Ink Zhivago (also from a postcard: nice green shading but also not available in Holland?)

- Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-Gaki (very nice orange color, but not in Holland available).

- Diamine Blaze Orange (also never heard of in Holland.....)

- J. Herbin 1670 Red (maybe available in a town 60 km away??).

I prefered one of the orange inks, but I don't think I want to keep the FP in storage until I can find a decent ink.

Maybe just use my Rubinato Blue or Caran d'Ache Amazon??

I'll have to sleep on this.

BTW: anyone close to or in Holland who has these inks and can send me a sample???

Bert from Holland

Pen has been paid but I still have to get my shipping notice.

That was a tough one for me as well, as I have all the MB, Iroshizuku, and J Herbin inks, along with a few others (as well as some wonderful blends). In the end, I decided on MB RG. Other than leaking through the first seal (which is a known issue and replacement parts are forthcoming), the pen is performing flawlessly in its second day! It writes every bit as well as some MBs costing 40x more (I have two in that rare air), I can worry about it less, and completely service it myself!

MB JFK BB; 100th Anniversary M; Dumas M FP/BP/MP set; Fitzgerald M FP/BP/MP set; Jules Verne BB; Bernstein F; Shaw B; Schiller M; yellow gold/pearl Bohème Pirouette Lilas (custom MB-fitted EF); gold 744-N flexy OBB; 136 flexy OB; 236 flexy OBB; silver pinstripe Le Grand B; 149 F x2; 149 M; 147 F; 146 OB; 146 M; 146 F; 145P M; 162 RB

You've got all the inks I haven't got and can't get overhere ?? :crybaby:

You're welcome to send me the ones you can't/won't use... (see my list above) :puddle:

Excellent info above. I received my first pen as one of the 300 FPN batch, but ordered another this morning at the above email address. PayPal invoice came back within 20 minutes along with a covering email. TWSBI not only make fantastic pens, their customer service is at the same level. Very, very impressive all round. Highest accolades to Mark, Speedy and Co.

I got the notice in my mailbox on Tuesday that they didn't deliver my pen. For some reason, our current carrier will not deliver Registered mail even if no signature is required (previous carriers had no problem). That means I had to wait until Wednesday to go down to the Post Office to pick up my TWSBI, right?

No! It means I had to wait until Wednesday to go down to the Post Office to watch them scurry around for half an hour and finally tell me it wasn't in the building. "Maybe it's on the truck to be delivered today. We'll check the trucks when they come back in--if you don't get it today come back in tomorrow to see if we found it on a truck."

So I go back in on Thursday to watch them scurry around for another 20 minutes, tell me it's not in the building and pass me off to the Delivery Supervisor. "I have the information here from looking for it yesterday. I'll talk to the carrier, but today is his day off. I'll call you when I know something." :bonk:

Irony? It makes it from Taiwan to my house in less than a week, but then gets lost on its way back to the Post Office less than a mile away?

:crybaby:

I read a previous post from someone at this forum, who chased the postman with his dog to the other side of the block/town to get his parcel. Maybe this helps in your case? :eureka:

Before going back to the postoffice, get instructions from Oceans 11 till 13 (some good movies to watch while waiting till the next day).

I wouldn't suggest chasing the mail-person with your dog, A because they will be delivering or "not" delivering your mail to you in the future and, B my mom used to be a mail carrier and she always had a rubber mallet and pepper spray with her incase someone or a dog tried to get her, you wouldn't believe some of the stories she has about weird things and people while delivering the mail making the pepper spray a necessity. So moral of the story don't bite the hand that delivers your mail, as it can bite back. Also it might be a federal offense to harass a mail carrier as they work for the federal government and I know if you screw with mail boxes you can get in a lot of trouble because that is for sure a federal offense. Anyways while I sure that the above post was made in jest, I am just outlining your options with the mail carrier. Hope your pen gets to you soon,

Grant

Before I get any hatemale:

- my post was indeed made in jest,

- I've been a mailman for several years myself (in Holland) but haven't had the experiences like your mother (but then:

I have seen the film 'Bowling for Columbine")

- no animals were hurt during adding this or any previous posts.

Mine arrived on Thursday, the 8th just as my original shipping notice advised. It's just as breath taking as everyone else's. I did have to sign for it but happened to be home that day and could sign for it. Actually I happened to be home because I didn't want to take a chance on missing it.

Thankfully nothing serious happened to her, only a couple of weird gentleman who preferred to sit on their porch only in their skivvies and stare at her. This is when she made sure to have the pepper spray, mail carriers usually have to worry more about dogs attacking or sick people who like to put fireworks in mailboxes. No offense was intended to you TheToadMen. Anyways I can't wait to here about the new TWSBI pens from you guys when you get them as I unfortunately was not able to get into the first 300. Hoping all of you get your pens soon.

Regards,

Grant

I did get my pen today. When the regular carrier came in he "went right to it." The people behind the counter that looked for it for two days said, when I went to pick it up, "he must have taken it back out on the truck with him."

Either way, I finally got it. It is a gorgeous pen, seemingly well-built and solid. I could tell it wouldn't become a regular writer for me because it is definitely not made for posting and I cannot write with a pen I cannot post, but I still wanted to try it out. I flushed it with water a few times, then filled it with Noodler's Squeteague. Wrote about a line and a half (actually just filled out a short form at work). Emptied the pen and flushed it to let it sit while I decide whether to stub the nib or not, and noticed several drops of ink behind the piston seal--back in the mechanism.

Does anyone know if there is a way to clean this out? I thought that the "disassemblability" of the pen would come in handy here, but following the instructions only resulted in rounding out the plastic that the wrench apparently is supposed to adjust. It's the same piece in the picture, and is the only part of the pen I've found that the wrench actually fits on. But turning in the direction illustrated (the first five or six times anyway, tried it both ways in case I was reading it wrong) only results in increasing resistance until the wrench "pops" at the 180 degree mark. I cannot get water behind the piston to at least dilute the ink that got there during a two-minute fill, and I cannot disassemble the pen according to the instructions.

I've been patiently waiting for mine, and duly checking the status at USPS until this:

"Your item was misrouted. The error has been corrected and every effort is being made to deliver it as soon as possible. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
