I hope his pens are genuine since I bought the Lady green shantung from him last year. It's a beautiful pen, nice quality, smooth transaction through Ebay. He does seem to have a large inventory of Duponts even though he says he's not an official Dupont vendor.

Everything I've seen him advertising so far has been authentic. Just an FYI. The Lady series pens used the old style ST Dupont cartridges and converter instead of the international size. It is identical to the Parker cartridge and converter if you ever need a second source.

Dear Jar,

Thank you for the Parker information for refills that would fit my Dupont Lady. I've been filling my one measly cartridge with a syringe when I learned that Dupont doesn't make a converter for the Lady.

Well, check the Parker or Aurora converters. Bet they will fit too.

I have three Duponts -- a grey guilloche Fidelio fountain and ballpoint set (Love that the pen have be switched to a mechanical pencil with a change of refill). And the other is a Defi that I bought last August. It was a pen that I thought was attractive, but once I had picked it up -- had written a jot with it, simply held it in my hand -- it felt as if it had been sculpted to my hand. And its performance on paper, as well as the quality of how it is made, is just about flawless.

I can imagine that others would not be at all taken with this pen, but as far as I'm concerned it's one of the best pens I own.

The Fidelio's pretty good, as well....

I recently purchased an Olympio XL in the Chinese Lacquer and Gold Trim and must say it is the smoothest nib out of the box I have used.

The nib is beautiful, elegant in it's curves and stiffer than I originally thought it would be, perhaps due to the relatively short tines. The extra-fine is smooth as silk, similar to Binderized Pelikan Nib smoothness with very little feedback. Personally I prefer more feedback in my nibs but the smooth nib afficionado's will love it.

The gold trim and chinese lacquer beautiful.

Placed a cartridge (a half dozen included in the package) and it wrote straight away.

A beautiful pen... which I bought used but only several months into ownership with valid papers and warranty.

The grip section is slightly loose, a fact disclosed by the seller and it is on it's way to the distributor to have it replaced under warranty (fingers crossed) ... will review the pen when it comes back. Many thanks Jar for your excellent help and useful reviews. I think I've purchased all the grail pens I want now!!! *The MB 149 is on order so we'll see whether the Dupont will come back at the same time*

In Rotation: MB 146 (EF), Noodler's Ahab bumblebee, Edison Pearl (F), Sailor ProGear (N-MF)

In storage: MB 149 (18k EF), TWSBI 540 (B), ST Dupont Olympio XL (EF), MB Dumas (B stub), Waterman Preface (ST), Edison Pearl (0.5mm CI), Noodler's Ahab clear, Pilot VP (M), Danitrio Densho (F), Aurora Optima (F), Lamy 2000 (F), Visconti Homo Sapiens (stub)

I have two Dupont pens. The Sherman and 007 casino royal.

I did reviews on both of them in the review section.

The nib is super smooth.

It is one of the pen I highly recommend to try it and maybe you will love it.

As far as the nib goes, I think they are one of the few manufacturer that still make their nibs in house.

I really want one the black mother of pearl special edition Orpheos, but that $1200-$1400 street price for a c/c pen has kept me from pulling the trigger.

That's understandable. It's a pretty pen but that is a chunk-o-change.

I have a Lady Shantung that's a great writer, but I don't know if it necessarily sold me on the brand. I love the shades of blue they come up with, but I dislike their pricing for their materials. So if I can get one in an acceptable range of pricing, I'd probably pick up another Dupont, though. :bunny01:

Your Lady Shantang is a wonderful example of Chinese Lacquer work and that is where most of the costs are involved. Chinese lacquer like urushi, is not just very labor intensive, but requires a very skilled craftsman to apply.

I was lucky enough to get it on the second hand market it for a fraction of the cost. The blue lacquer is exquisite, but I would have passed at normal cost. Having said that, it's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

I have this but I don't know any detail about it.

My local shop have them on display and I just like it so much that I just had to have it.

Any help about this identifying pen is greatly appreciated.

They do make nice pens but the lack of a self filling mechanism will probably keep me away.

Respect to all

It appears to be one of the early pens, the Classique from about 1972 through the late 70s. If you need cartridges or a converter it takes the Parker standard.

  • 3 weeks later...

While I have limited experience with ST Dupont Fountain Pens, my few experiences have tainted my view of all other fountain pens. They are wonderful.

I am now on a mission to find one, and only one, ST Dupont pen -- the Chairman Amber. Given the few hundred available, I don't have any hope of finding one. There aren't even many reference to the Chairman Amber on the web (except this post).

Wishing and waiting and happy writing.

First, welcome home. :W2FPN: The Amber Chairman is lovely. Are you looking for the standard or large size?

I have a beautiful Chinese Lacquer red/maroon, with black Chinese brush and the gold dust Orphalo counterfeit.

€28 or $35....or half price of them....flea market, buy and hope....still a beautiful looking pen. One does occasionally get a real good deal in a Flea market.

Any one got a nice real gold Dupont nib from a smashed to hell pen? Even steel or know the price of a steel one?

My hope died with the poor nib....but it looks so pretty laying there on the black marble inkwell. Looking is all it does well.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

To the best of my knowledge the only steel nibs ST Dupont made were the Defi.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
