Out of interest, can i get a comment as to your preference between the optima and the 88, and the 'aurora feedback...' whats it like... beautiful photography btw, and great review

If only money didn't exist, and pens grew on trees...

The pictures are great! I have that pen in a rollerball and use it from time to time. Maybe time for another Aurora! Did you use a macro lens to take those photographs?

What I like especially about this pen is the wide silver ring with the meander design and the company's name within it.

It becomes a luxury touch.

I also like the engraving on the body.

At all a very elegant pen and I hope you enjoy writting.

Hello! First of all, I must also add, along with everyone else, that I really appreciate this terrific review of a wonderfully classy writing instrument. I own the marbled versions of the Optima, but I must say that the all-black version is a stand-out. My Nikargenta 88 has a similar aura.

Some people may not realize it, but the large Aurora 88, Optima and standard-sized Talentum fountain pens all use identical, threaded nib units so, I would say, the writing quality and experience is similar. I must also add that I wouldn't say that the Talentum is a "lesser" pen. It's just different because of its weight and, of course, it's filling system, among other design points. Talentums are high-quality pens. I do prefer the piston-filled Auroras, however.

Thank you, again, for the beautiful review.

/Robert

No matter where you go, there you are.

I agree, but I got it for a lesser price. It's a great pen.

To this day owning both pens for a while now I could never pick one over the other. The 88 and Optima are both fantastic pens, thank you.

Did you use a macro lens to take those photographs?

Yes, I used a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 Macro. Thank you.

Thank you, Robert. I do miss my Talentum, I wish I never sold it. I think a Talentum could be in the future for me again.

Which would you say you like better, the optima or the 88. I was thinking about getting an 88.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
