Many Inexpensive Piston Fillers

I have some new pens for sale along with the Dollar pens I have sold here for some time. The new pens are the well known Reform 1745 and a slightly bigger Reform, the P 120. Both are NOS.

The Dollar Student pen is still on sale for 3.00 $ as long as my stock lasts. I have also reduced the price for the Dollar SP-10 to 5.00 $.

The small print

The Reform pens are NOS and have been stored for more than 30 years. Some of the pistons are a bit stiff and not as smooth as a new piston. This is more typical with the 1745 than with the P 120. Luckily this is easy to fix with the 1745 by lubricating the piston with a very small amount of silicone grease. I do this with every 1745 unless you specify that you don't want it lubed.

I don't know how to do this on the P 120 because the nib and feed are not easy to remove. Luckily these pistons are not so stiff but Noodlers eel ink would certainly do good to these pens.

Please flush all Reform and Dollar pens with luke warm water before filling them with ink.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

What are the nib sizes of the two Reforms and the Dollar demonstrator and student pens?

The Student Pen has a medium and the Demonstrator has a fine nib but the later could also be described as a fine medium.

The Reform 1745 has a fine nib but I am not sure how the P 120 nib is marked. I would say that it is fine like the 1745 nib but this is only my personal view based on trying one single pen. Fine here means European fine that is wider than for instance the Chinese fine nibs.

I hope this is at least to some help.

Very much, thank you! I'm sending you a PM for one Dollar demonstrator and one each of the Reforms.

Got my reforms yesterday. Yay, they arrived before spring break!

They write very nice and will be fun to use.

I am a Pelikan, Montblanc, Sailor, and Visconti user, OK, but I am not ashamed to recognize that I also have samples of all these cheap pens. The dollars in particular I bought from the OP, smeden, and my favourites are the transparent demonstrators-- I cannot help getting perplexed by how good these cheap pens write. I have two dollars around my desk at any time. No worries about dropping them or misplace them. I would also recommend the 717 calligraphy pen. It is like no other calligraphy or italic pen I have, it gives an "asian italic" instead of the conventional "western italic", very nice indeed.

In my current rotation:

Pelikan 400 Brown Tortoise/14K Fine/J. Herbin Cafe des Iles

Lamy 2000/14K Medium/Lamy Blue-Black

Sailor 1911 Large burgundy/21K Naginata Togi Medium/Diamine Oxblood

Montblanc 146/14K Fine/Montblanc Racing Green

Rosetta blue/Steel Pendelton cursive italic/Pelikan Royal Blue

Delta Passion/18K Broad/Diamine Syrah

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
