Hi everyone.

Just though I would make my first post.

I just recieved a HERO 832 from Ebay at a cost of £2.99.

I am not impressed at all.

Not made very well.

Heavy because they have tried to make it feel quality by making it from metal.

Said it is NEW but has a dent in it.

Glad I did not buy any more of these.

I only bought it as was cheap.

Never will buy fountain pens like this again.

The Paper was just any note paper I had as do not have any decent paper at the moment.

Probably why have so much feathering on the paper as not great paper.

Regards

Karl

Hi

I got a LAMY Logo 2 weeks for my birthday and its sparked my interest in Fountain pens.

It even came with a converter in the box. Did not say that in the online shop.

www.cultpens.co.uk

Very happy with the LAMY pen with Fine Nib.

Just got to get some decent paper to write on, not much good have a great pen and no paper.

Although I have just ordered a Moleskine pocket notebook.

Thanks for replying

You are welcome. Regarding paper, i'd go for Rhodia, Oxford optik, Black n' Red or Whitelines. Try The Writing Desk for paper. I find moleskine to be very finicky(especially pocketbook size)about ink. The tendency for the ink to bleed is often and is unpleasant...

Good choice of pen tho

I don't know if that's indicative of that model, but I've got other Heros that easily out-perform many of my (much) more expensive Japanese pens. Perhaps it's just the luck of the draw, but I'm rapidly finding that cost has very little to with a pen's writing ability. In fact, I'm beginning to feel that the inverse is true (at least in my case). :gaah:

The problem with Hero seems to be that they don't do quality control. I've got one that stinks worse than the skip behind an abbatoir on a hot day, one that's pretty good and one that's rather wonderful.

I do worry that arse dribble like the trick 616s will put people off Chinese pens, which is a shame.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
