Feeling Anti-Lamy

I'm not sure if they have made a change, but I just got a Pelikano and it has a little thing molded into the barrel that pushes the converter down into the pen. Totally stable and won't move.

I have a black one purchased a year or two ago and it's a garden hose. But that's why I like it. Everyone needs at least one garden hose.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

At the risk of flying in the face of popular opinion, I find the cheap plastic Lamy's too ugly to behold or ever consider. I'm sure they write well, but that in itself is not enough for me.

As an aside, my first FP was a Parker - I think it was a 25.

Heck, my firat FP was either a cheap Parker or Scheaffer. Whichever it was, it fascinated the hell out of me.

I've been knee-deep in Lamys for about 20 years. I can't speak too ill of them, but I will say that some of their FPs have left a bit to be desired. I do appreciate their keeping the faith by maintaining a piston-fill-only pen (2000) in their lineup. But, other than the Persona, none of their FP offerings have gotten my attention, including the recent Dialog 3. My recent discovery of the Pilot Custom 823 and Custom 74 demonstrator hasn't made matters easier in this regard, as both of these pens have become my #1 and 2 go-to pens for about 80% of my writing chores, with the Lamy 2000taking up most of the slack, followed by assorted rollers and BPs (mostly Lamy). And don't get me started with inks...

I just can´t get past the clip design on the Safari/ Al Star, it reminds me of a paper clip. I have the same problem with Lamy pens that I have with mushrooms, I wish I liked them, I want to like them but nothing on Gods earth will make me like them!

lamy does have very good fountainpens, i have a logo is brushed steel and it writes always, even after a long time.

if somebody asks me what pen to start with i reccommend a parker vector, or a lamy logo or awaterman fp, a medium nib is good to start with.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
