twsbi vacuum filling system fountain pen project

I think a number like the 530 would be nice, like the 750 vac. Have the first digit represent the sizing, second digit the fill mechanism type...

so you can have the 530, the 750, and with your planned smaller vac filler, the 350.

...

+1 for this numbering schema...

It has a '20s Waterman's taste that is yummy, isn't it?

This looks gorgeous. I've been looking for something with a feed & collector that fills with the old Onoto push down to fill mechanism - but doesn't blob. This would look like it does it.

$70 is a reasonable price, $100 is pushing it a bit for me, but I could save up...

It's also the nib that's important...

Flex would be nice, but a stub/italic is what I really like.

Regards,

Richard.

The price... maybe between $65 to 70. Is this ok?

I'm not a notable layer-out of money on pens, and this strikes me as a good price for the mechanism. The cheaper Sheaffers of the 1940s were about the same in terms of the amount of groceries the pen's cost would buy, after all.

TWSBI Diamond V-530, V-600, V-700, etc. The piston should be P-530, etc. There is a historical precedent for using the V, as in the German V-2 Rocket, which is the precursor of the rocket that eventually took us to the moon. Given that the nib is German, then it makes sense. Maybe I just drank too much coffee this morning.

Wasn't it Irish coffee, by chance?

I'm all for a lower price, but even if we're talking a price on par with the Pelikan M200 (the basic one, not the slightly costlier M205s and 215s) I would contend it is a good value. This pen holds a ton of ink if it is properly done.

$65-70 sounds fine, or whatever the final price turns out to be.

(Maybe nibs could be quickly dip-tested and/or tines aligned (as per HisNibs)? Should take care of any major nib problems.)

Personally, I prefer completely clear demonstrators (let the colours come from the ink and the internals), but as long as it comes with the colourless clear ink barrel and cap I'm happy.

I really like the solidity and size of the TWSBI Diamond 530, so it's good to see the Vac is a similar size (or a teeny bit longer).

Unlike GirchyGirchy, I like a spring clip. I've bent both Parker and Lamy Safari non-spring clips when clipped to trouser/jeans pockets, but my Lamy 2000 with spring clip and a Pilot Knight have taken anything in their stride.

about the name, if we put it

TWSBI DIAMOND VAC 700, I think this will be too long, but we do need a serie number. so how about

TWSBI VAC 700 (the first vacuum pen of twsbi)

TWSBI VAC 600 (2nd vacuum penof twsbi)....

then Diamond become representing twsbi piston filling pen.

Why would the 600 model follow the 700 model?

that's a secret at the moment,:roflmho:

Quick question about the vac fill - is it still planning on having a spring tensioned clip? I'm personally not a huge fan of them - the ones I've messed with don't have enough tension, and it's more expense and complexity for not much gain.

It is a spring loaded clip. we will make suue the spring out good.hahaha

That's just a prototype, right? The knob will still be opaque black on the final model, I think.

Hoped I could have it under my Christmas tree...

The clear one looks better, but this is only my opinion...

Since the feeder housing part will be produced by TWSBI a clear one would match the clear knob.

And it would be a VAC-Fill pen showing all the part.

Guessing it will be as self-serviceable as the D530 is no problem for cleaning!!!

Just my 2 cents.

Marco

about the self service, actually not much you can or should do on this pen.

The section can be apart from the barrel, in case you feel need to add (just a little bit) silicone on the piston, you can do it from the barrel opening. I will not suggest you take apart the vacuum mechanism. so no spaner will enclosed (the secret is that 530 spaner work on this one too, hahaha).

But don't do it, unless it is definitely needed.

by the way, what formal name we are going to it

TWSBI Diamond Vacuum or

TWSBI Diamond Vac.....???

Really? O-rings let go... if not all the time, eventually. They dry up and crack, and then you're up a creek. I know swimming pool pumps are hardly representative of the environment a pen's o-rings experience, but it's still something to consider -- instead of spanner and silicone, what about spanner and sealed airtight O-ring kit? Or just O-ring specifications so fresh parts can be sourced?

Speedy, do you have an estimate of cost for the vacuum pen yet? I think you should call it the Speedy Diamond Vac!

the price for TWSBI VAC 700, I haven't really finaliz it yet, due to the cost higher on stainless steel rod, forged clip, and crown made by CNC turning...

maybe between $65 to 70. Is this ok? let's wait until all spec. finalized and you guys comment then decide.

Oof, I'm out for the time being. It's not a terrible price, unless you're a broke student like me. I'll just have to hope I get one for Christmas or something.

I'd wager it's either an economized model, or a miniaturized model; perhaps both.

Smaller

Well, I am planning next Vac without thread between section and barrel, it is a snap fit cap.

some people hold the pen near thread area, they may find Vac 700 not comfortable for them, so...

TWSBI Diamond vacuum 700 was best describ the pen, but it is too..... long

soe has to sacrifice Diamond and shorten Vacuum to Vac = Twsbi Vac 700

TWSBI DiaVac 700 ok for me, but I am not good on English so how you folks think?

If eveyrone think this is good, then we change to

TWSBI DiaVac 700

I don't like DiaVac or DIVA. The "Diamond V" that richardandtracy suggested made me think of "Twsbi Diamond V700" which is better in my opinion.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
