Kansas Ciry Collectors meeting redux

If you look real quick you can see pictures of the KC pen collectors meeting touted by dava. They are currently on the third page of the Pentrace Message Board - who knows how long before they are bumped into oblivion.

In addition to pictures of such local luminaries as the ever photogenic dava and Sherrel Tyree there are a few pictures of pens.

Pictures of the October meeting are on Pendemoniums website in the Show photogallery

Frankly, calling this a club is a bit of hyperbole. It's only about a dozen of us who hang out one Saturday almost every other month, talk pens and eat donuts. We are really lucky to have a great store owner who spots us to donuts every meeting and sometimes donates prizes for a draeing. Very low key. Dennis Bowden and Sherrel provide a professional presence - and two nicer pen people you could not hope to meet.

Finally, in case this might be thought to be a case of shameless self promotion I hereby swear that I will never ever ever ever use Dennis picture of me as an avatar.

Oh no, the photo thread rolled off the Pentrace pages while I was offline for a couple of days and there are no captions indentifying who is who :(

I recognize Sam Fiorella--lady in pale blue blouse-- and Sherrel Tyree--lady in red t-shirt...They are both very nice people; I met them both in Portland last summer)....

I've done some business with Dennis Bowden and he is such a nice person, too but I've always wondered what he looked like  And where are you, Alex? And dava? HELP!

Thanks in advance,

Maja

Hi Maja

I am the redhead with the brown plaid shirt, sporting a handlebar mustache and Van Dyke standing next to Sam in the second photo on the first row. In the second row, fourth and fifth photo you will find Alex and I listening intently to Sam's lecture. Another noteworthy fellow in the very last photo is Dennis Bowden holding the hat while Sam pulls the door prize winners out of it.

I think that these photos can be seen in the last issue of the Pennant as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
