A Manchester Meeting?

Carrie

Recommended Posts

As there's a few of us based in the North of England, myself and Meanwhile were discussing the idea of having a get together. Probably one evening in a pub in Manchester. Is anyone interested in meeting up to show off pens, discuss ink or whatever?

Carrie I'm in Liverpool. I'm an Orthodox Rabbi and so would find some times harder than others - and the Jewish New Year and festivals are coming up soon so that will make it a whole lot more confusing. But I would LOVE to get together to discuss pens over pints - sounds a really great idea.

I'm in Lincoln and Manchester could be a bit far for an evening meeting. I'm with the weekenders.

On the other hand -- Sheffield is about midway :D

I'd be interested, but time is always a pressure. I also have zero navigatory skills so while you are all supping pints I'd be wandering, gormlessly around a nameless village where the locals tell me to stick to the path and not to venture onto the moors during a full moon.

Sounds like we need to plan something for a weekend then. Do people have any views on finding a nice country pub somewhere not too far from Manchester? Presumably something easily accessible from the motorway network would be a good idea. How many people can manage the 22nd October?

Bluemax, nice to know there's someone else relatively local, I used to work in Warrington. I'm not too far from Wilmslow (but please don't hold that against me!) ;)

I'm based out of Warrington and would love to attend if you're still planning on something.

What's that amazing pen in your profile picture????

I've not had time to update this topic because we had a huge electrical storm here last week which knocked out all the phonelines (and killed my BT Home Hub!). Anyway, I'm now back online with a borrowed router and trying to catch up on things.

I've got to be in Manchester on the 22nd, so wondered if anyone would like to do a lunchtime meet in the city centre, say at 12:30? A quiet coffee shop / bar where we can pick up some food. Meanwhile mentioned Atlas on Deansgate. I'm open to suggestions on location.

Unfortunately I now can't make the 22nd - my girlfriend has her birthday this weekend, plus it's the deadline for her MSc dissertation, and I've had to rearrange like crazy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
