hey guys

glad i found you guys as i am completely lost in this field.

so far the most interesting pen (that i recognize) of importance is that i have the parker snake pen. what is the history with this pen? rarity, value? im certain there are other rare pens, this is just one of the ones that stood out

i was just going to sell most of these, she had them all in display cases and they didn't look to interesting (its just a pen to me...). but i've been doing a bit more research on the ones that just "looked" cool (such as the parker snake) and have found these to be very valuable and rare.

if i post up some pics of these pens, is the knowledge base of this forum broad enough to be able to help me in having a decent evaluation of this collection?

she had price tags on most of them and there seemed to be around 20-30k total value of pens.

would it be worth it to sign up for the PCA or would i get the same info here?

how do i go about posting pics? if i do individual, im afraid id eat this forums bandwith right up. 10, 20 at a time, what? i can post pics tomorrow or monday but now that i've seen the rarity im going to slow waaaay down on this process.

There's a bug in the new board software. You need to host the pics online on Flickr, Photobucket, or a similar site, then link to the images there.

You'll find a lot of dealers and pen experts on here. Take your time and wait for the answers to filter in. :W2FPN:

Such a waste... I hope that by the time I die, I would have found someone to appreciate my pens, instead of becoming a mere dollar sign. A beautiful collection though.

all i am asking is to help me appreciate these, history of the pens, rarity, etc... i've literally been dumped on with these pens its a lot to take in right now so please help me out.

i should also add if someone needs a closer look at these pens i have the hi res pics saved that i can email you.

I belive I recognize a Laban large resin - I bought a new one some weeks ago for around 50 GBP - and 2 Montegrappas, probably a Miya red and a Privilege Deco in silver. New, these can cost you some 200-300 GBP. But I'm not a specialist... Just telling you what I remember seeing in some online shops.

There's definitely a Laban Mento in there (and the price tag of $500-1000 is a very long way out), but I guess that's just about the bottom end in value here - I don't know anywhere near enough and pass the baton to others.....

You really have a wonderful collection there and what appears to my novice eye to be a tasteful and well educated mix of valuable vintage, modern, and limited editions. There is a whole lot there, no junk, and from what I could read it is well tagged with an estimated value. You might start by listing all the tags and what they say on them. That will help the folks here better ID the pen. Then depending on where you live, you might see if there is a local pen club. Take your collection or a part of it there and that's a great way to learn and meet new people. If you choose to sell, ebay is of course an option, but I think it's safer there for those who have some experience with the Bay and pens. The Bay will certainly help evaluate the value, but mint and in box is rare so watch for those in the description. It'd be helpful if you had someone help you with the descriptions if you get to the point of selling them yourself. You may also consider hooking up with a pro pen person who can sell them on consignment. You can look through the For sale section and maybe ID who those folks are.

There is a whole lot here though and patience is the best next step. You have been blessed by someone for sure and consider a keepsake to remember them by. A ft pen is a very personal thing for most of us collectors and users and if you know which ones were personally used I'd hang onto those for sure. Those which have ink in them may be a hint or if there were any not in the display and on a desk for example. Take your time with this is my advice and let the FPN experts chime in. WOW!

I'll try to shed some light on what I believe you have.

The Yellow pen is a Parker Ring top ladies Duofold from the late 1920's in Manderin Yellow - Not sure of value with this level of discoloration.

The third pen is a modern but out of productions Parker Duofold in the Black Moasic pattern. Hard to tell if it is Centenial or International size. If Centenial it would be around 5 3/8" long and worth around $500. Shorter and worth less if International version.

Second a Mont Blanc 145 or 146 if it has a converter it is a 145 Chopin if it is piston filled (turn cap on bottom of pen) it is probably a 146.

The third is a Parker Vaccumatic from the 1940's looks like an Amber Pearl color

My apologies for a response to what seemed was a post focused on selling the pens. I would hold on to them, without finding the price. If you learn how to use one, and try each on, you'd know how much each one is worth. Hopefully in such a process, you'd be able appreciate them more, but just to sell them all, that would be a lost history and waste. Welcome to FPN, and I hope that this inheritance is just merely a door opening for you.

Envy, envy! You should try them first, definitely. They are wonderful pens. :notworthy1:

Do you know what size the nibs are? If they don't fit your writing style, that might put you off a bit, but nibs can be resized....

excuse my newness but... what are nibs?

and how do i know what fits my writing style?

matter of fact, the only real pens that i stretch on are buying the uniball pens at target. :-/

this is ALL new to me.

@professionaldilettante: originally yes it was mostly going to be sold, like i said they were just pens to me i had no idea what an amazing collection this is. don't worry though, this stuff is growing on me and ill definitely be keeping most if not all of them (she has a lot of modern watermans and whatnot that i might sell).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
