Is This a MB Pen Set

CRB

Recommended Posts

The title and description of this ebay auction seems full of innaccuracies; maybe even attempts to mislead buyers. I have a pen which looks just like this: it's made by Jinhao and I paid $6.99 for it. I didn't get a Joon catalogue, nor a Mont Blanc bag, but I'm O.K. with that. The seller's feedback gives no information on what kind of merchandise he/she has sold. Is this a Mont Blanc copy of a sought after Jinhao Limited Edition?

I'm curious.

That looks awfully NOT like a montblanc.

In fact, I'm pretty sure it is as you were guessing, a Jinhao, and that is one seriously unscrupulous seller. I mean seriously. 425 for what you can get for less than 10? ugh.

so other than me, has anyone else reported this to ebay security and to mont blanc so some unsuspecting person does not spend 400 bucks on an 8dollar pen?

The seller doesnt claim that the pen is a Montblanc, says he will include MB ink and compares the pen to an MB Agatha Christie but no claims to its MB authenticity.

I'm holding the exact same model, in different colour, in my hand, right now. It's a Jinhao

As mentioned by Arthur, this seller is very clever in choosing the words. There's no mention that he/she is selling Montblanc pen, but rather a pen with Montblanc ink, and that the pen is comparable to MB Agatha Christie.

Clever, very clever indeed!

It can still be reported to eBay as follows:

  • Report Category: Listing Violations
  • Reason for Report: Listing policy violations (improper keywords, outside links, excessive shipping, etc)
  • Detailed Reason: Keyword spamming
  • Additional Information: Inappropriate or excessive use of brand and/or celebrity names

Thanks kps, for the helpful specifics on reporting this kind of listing. I reported it, too.

While the seller did not make a literal claim that this pen is a MB, he/she did not once state the actual brand name of this pen. With no brand name except MB used throughout the auction listing, what impression is given?

Items are pictured in a presentation case labeled 'Limited Edition', with a Mont Blanc bag of the same size; a special area of the case holds a box of Mont Blanc carts;

The description says: "gold and silver" instead of "gold tone laquered brass cap and barrel"; "gold-plated steel nib"; "gold toned clip with red crystals for dragon's eyes"

The seller's feedback is private, so you can't tell what any of their feedback is for. Even so, you can look at the activity of those who have left feedback. Three on the first page of feedback are no longer registered ebay users. Some feedback is for items costing USD 0.06; and GBP 0.01; one was for an auction selling 3 Youtube accounts, with that seller promising to use his son's Youtube account to sign up on the lucky winner's Youtube channel. Whaaaat?

Auctions that don't seem quite right come and go. Beyond reporting it to ebay, I can only hope buyers take the time and precaution to make informed choices.

Hi,

Spotted that too as you say clever use of words, the seller is selling a rather ugly pen (apologies to anyone that loves these) with MB ink and bag, misleading but not claiming the pen is an MB.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
