Am I just nitpicking?

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes: I recently ordered a new Lamy Vista online and finally received it today. But when I was examining the pen, I noticed that the feed had a bluish tinge to it. Sure enough, when I tried to flush the pen, blue ink came out! Still flushing as of right now and still getting bluish water coming out. And this was supposed to be a brand new pen from a reputable online dealer.

The rest of the pen looks pretty much new except for some faint scratches on the inside of the cap (presumably from people trying the pen). Am I just nitpicking or should I be justifiably annoyed?

:) Lamy tests their pens before sending them out with of course, their blue ink! :D You're good to go, Gojira!

Thanks! I just got a little annoyed thinking that the seller may have just given me a display pen knowing that it's unlikely that I'll be bothered much. Anyway, the Vista also came together with a Pelikan M205 demo so I'm pretty much ecstatic today.

Now my next problem would be whether I'd dare ink either pen with a purple ink....

Hi,

Personally I wouldn't (well probably the Vista as it is comparatively cheap), I certainly wouldn't risk any ink that might stain the Pelikan.

Whatever you decide though, enjoy your pens.

I'm thinking that I can get away with some minor staining on the new Pelikan demo since it's blue....but then again, I'd probably end up inking it with Waterman Florida Blue....

Definitely not my week...just contacted an ebay seller regarding a pen I bought that was paid for 5 weeks ago. Apparently they only shipped it out last Thursday! SIGH!

:) I love Waterman Florida Blue. Not so fond of the colour it dries to though (too light for my tastes), so I mix it with Waterman Purple. ;)

Aww... that's lame! I'm always so anxious for a pen to come... I can't believe you were so patient! O_O

On average, it takes around 2 weeks for most registered airmail to reach me, regardless of their country of origin. However, lately this is lengthened into about 3 to 4 weeks, possibly due to the approaching Christmas season. I would prefer most of my purchases to be shipped via EMS IF the shipping charges were more reasonable.

Yeah, the extended waiting period has traumatised me so much that I've gone and bought myself several more pens...and they're all coming via airmail...AARGH!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
