Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum (...) Well I just love fountain pen. The first one I've owned was a sheaffer which I lost at university, and then à seond pen I lost somewhere at the university again....

Then I got a hell of a lot more serious. I have 3 dip pen with many Nibs, one italian glass dip pen. I bought a Lamy safari (which i am not that happy with), I have a Waterman Ici et la (my wife gave me) and a MonteVerde Incivia black tie. I am dreaming of a Pelikan 215, Namiki VP, and a Waterman Winston yellow.

I have tried a few type of inc, skript black, gold and blue. Watermant florida blue, island something blue, lamy black, quink. My favorite ones are Lamy black and florida blue for the moment but I will be looking for a burgundy pretty soon.

I have been bitten by the vampiric teeth of the founatin pens démons for over 5-6 years.

I am currently a law student in Ottawa University (Canada)before I was in microbilogy, and biochemistry. I take all my written notes with a fountain pen for the speed at which you can write. The comfort of the pen, and the fact that you can actually feel your writting, it's not like a disposable pen where you have to apply 3 tons of pressure for it to write. And on the good side it is very good for the environnement because we don't throw many many disposable pen, I refill mine with a converter.

I refer to writing with a fountain pen as the pensive sieve to actually capture your toughts. I just feels my toughts flow easillier when I am writing with a fountain pen the with other other means.

I am also an anti-conformist, left handed that likes to provoque other and debate endlessly for the sake of debating.

Nice to be part of this community

Yes my thoughts also flow more easily when I have a fountain pen in hand. They don't always translate to my finished articles, but they definitely are user friendly to my brain!

Welcome to the FPN Claude. I'm sure that you will enjoy our little nuthouse, and there are many here who enjoy debate, as you do.

I'd also like to mention that there are a few FP afficionados in Ottawa that you might enjoy meeting. We're having our Ottawa Fountain Pen Society (OFPS) social at a Pub in Ottawa very soon (July 18th) so if you'd like to come out and meet a bunch of local enthusiasts, please contact me for details. By the way, that invitation goes for anyone reading this who is in striking distance of Ottawa on July 18th. We'd love to see you.

Our web site is: http://www.ottawafountainpensociety.org/

Looking forward to your posts ...

Gerry

Welcome. The fountain pen helps me to better write down my thoughts. When I pick up a pen the things I'm thinking about flow down through my fingertips into the pen and onto the paper. It amazes me as to some of what I've been writing lately. Tell us more of yourself and your pens.

Bonjour Claude,

Il y a beaucoup de canadiens et canadiennes qui participent aux forums.

It's definitely a very friendly group here from all over the world, too.

Sometimes a technology reaches perfection and further development is just tinkering. The fountain pen is a good example of this.

Hello Claude and welcome to the FPN! :D Are there any good pen and stationery stores up in your part of Canada?

Sincerely yours,

Hello Claude, and welcome to FPN! Glad you're here and hope to see you on the boards - from one lefty to another (also been called argumentative before, fwiw). ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
