Hi to All

:D Hi

Greetings from Dublin, Ireland.

I've always been a fan of fountain pens, but didn't realise (until today) that a network such as this existed. It's comforting that there are others out there also on the quest for the 'ultimate' writing tool.

There's something that you may be able to assist with me. I'm trying to locate a vendor who supplies oblique fountain pens. These can be quite difficult to locate.

Any assistance/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any other members from Ireland out there?

Thanks

Pat

Welcome Pat. Good to see you here. Yes, there are people who can supply Oblique nibs - even people who will custom grind obliques on pens that you already have, provided the nibs can be properly modified. I won't bother listing all - they will likely respond, or if you're looking for a particular pen - try listing a WTB (Wanted to Buy) in the Marketplace.

Are there any Irish on the board? (grin) Well - of course. Take a wander down to chatter - aquaint yourself with Ruaidhri and enjoy....

It is always interesting to see who are fanciers of fountain pens and where they live. There are Irish here at FPN. There are those of us who also claim to be part Irish by way of our ancesters. My folks told me there is Irish back there somewhere but there is also English, Scot, Welsh and German all mixed together. Welcome.

Hello and welcome aboard! As to the quest for the perfect pen, many of us started out on such, but have come to discover that no such beast exists. Rather, many very, very good pens exist, which is why we want to have quite a few around - to appreciate their different strengths and characteristics. See you around, and enjoy the hunt!

Warning

Things tend to "explode" around Ruaidhri. He seems to be a decent sort otherwise.

Welcome to FPN. I look forward to learning about your hunt for oblique-ness. :D

Hi Pat and welcome aboard the FPN! I know that Richard Binder does a first rate job when it comes to creating nibs of all kinds. I know he can help you find what your looking for.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
