Official reponse from Parker:

I sent an e-mail asking if the Parker 45's were discontinued, and also if I could get a gold nib for the vector 2. Below is the response. Sorry to see the Parker 45 ... not being newly made. Gone is an era.

Hello Mr. Dooney,

I am sorry to say that we only manufacture the steel nibs for the Vector fountain pens. Yes, we discontinued the Parker 45. Check with Gray Enterprise at 800 970-7367, perhaps they may have some left.

Kind regards,

Jeannie

I'v seen a nice Parker 45 flighter w/ gold plated nib at a department store the other day....maybe i'll buy that one before Parker 45s become harder to find at walk-in shops.

This also had me thinking. The popular modern fountain pens as we have them today.....in 50 years time or so, would these pens be considered precious vintage pens (like the "51" is like today?) :)

That is really a shame....

It will also mean that for a while the price of all 45s will be artificially inflated due to the rarity scare that seems to follow the announcement that a pen is being discontinued. I would venture to say that there are probably a boat load of NIB 45s out there still.

Hi,

They are making them, but you can't buy them here. In the UK, you can find them.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

Yes, no problem at all in the UK - in fact they are becoming more numerous and easier to get - last year they were harder to find. Incidently the Vector 2 on the web site is called the Profile here.

Yes, we discontinued the Parker 45.

So what she really means but for whatever reason did not say is "we discontinued importing the Parker 45 which our company still manufactures and sells in places other than the United States."

YMMV

I would think so but what is being sold and what is being manufactured at any one time is not always the same. Manufacturer's don't necessarily have a continuous production run of a product.

Loads of 45's on eBay here in UK, mainly our friend JM Lewertoski, seemd to have pens, pencils, BPs and RBs. Prices are not bad either.

The majority of Parker products sold in Canada are made in UK as well. I assumed that this was true for US distribution as well. Was I wrong?

I was just basing this on the fact that some pens that are Made in UK are available in Australia, but not in the US, such as the Jotter Fountain pen

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
