Above all shadows rides the Sun
And Stars for ever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done,
Nor bid the Stars farewell.

Indeed, Shangas, this is a crown set and wound. It is a small size 12, 21 jewels, on a 14K case, accurate and very cheap, from fleabay!?!?! I lucked out!

I found this Hamilton a couple weeks ago while out looking for pens. Had it serviced, and it's running great. The watch, the snorkel, and I am roughly the same vintage. Mid to late 1950s.

Nice Breitling!

What's the name of your old squadron?

Nice Breitling!

What's the name of your old squadron?

It was my first fixed-wing unit, No. 30 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The Motto "Ventre à Terre" literally means "Front to the Ground" but colloquially translates as "Flat Out" and the Palm Tree symbolises the early days of the unit in the desert.

The watch is Titanium (with a Titanium strap) and is the choice of many front-line RAF aircrew. I have to admit that given the places it has been and the conditions I've worn it in over 16 years, it's in fantastic shape with not a scratch on the crystal face.

Here is a classic pair: 1974 Omega Seamaster military dial, manual and a 1940's Montblanc L139 fitted with a BB nib.

Filling a fountain pen is much more fun than changing a printer cartridge

Time flows, preferably slowly...

Those are the biggest links on a watch-chain I've ever seen in my life.

Nice photo! What are the items pictured there?

The hat, a Panama, is a Mayser

The vest is an almost two-decade old one that has not expanded as much as I have (let's move on to the next item, and I refuse to be distracted by off-topic questions...)

The cufflinks are a little over thirty years old. I bought them at a large arts and craft expo they have in Montreal every year just before Christmas. I just remember that they were expensive. Hand-made, rosewood if I remember well. I'm a capricorn, born in January, which means Saturn is my planet. Saturn, in the greek and latin mythologies, was the god of time : chronos.

The watch is a Waltham. I don't know very much about watches. So that's all I know about it. The chain came with it. It's a heavy watch.

The pen is a Canadian-made Waterman 12 POC, an eyedropper.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
