Thank you to everybody who attended last night's meeting. Feel free to come to the pen show in November and say hello.

If there is any interest in having a PRE-SHOW DINNER - please contact Max Braude (Skybird), or myself, and I'll pass the word along.

Thank you to everybody who showed up at this month's meeting! An excellent number of people!

Thank you to our informative and extremely interesting presenter, the esteemed Rabbi Eli Gutnik for his presentation on the writing of religious Jewish manuscripts, and the tools and equipment used in their execution, from Mezuzah scrolls all the way up to the Grand Poobah, the Torah!

Our next meeting is the 2nd MONDAY of APRIL!! Where yours truly will be talking about dip-pens, and pre-fountain pen writing accessories in general. :)

Hi All,

I've just joined up on the FPN and Shangas invited me over here.

At risk of repeating myself from the Introductions topic, my name is Gary. I'm a 49 y.o. physicist and engineer and started getting interested in fountain pens around a year ago.

I thought I'd say hi although I'm not sure I'll be very active here, but we'll see. I'm not sure I'm a collector; more a fountain pen admirer with a few pens so far and more than enough ink to last a lifetime.

Hi fellow Melbournians - I'm hoping to stop by the Tower Hotel for the next get-together. After using the same Waterman Preface for 20 years I decided to see what else was around, and I've been astonished by what I found. I'd be interested to chat about pen stuff with others.

The next meeting of the MELBOURNE PEN GROUP is the FIFTH OF JUNE. 6:30pm at the Tower Hotel.

Anyone interested in attending, please bring along ONE pen which holds some variety of significance to you, and be prepared to give us a little chat about why you like this pen or why it's significant! :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
