Pen Posse's Dinner With Globetrotterjon

Recommended Posts

Tonight was very much fun, I have to say. It was a Good Thing to meet Jon and Ann and also to welcome Nicolai (sp?) who had come across FPN only the day before yesterday.

The newbie here...

I had a great time meeting all of you. I'd like to thank everyone I chatted with and especially those patient enough to walk me through more amazing pens than I've seen in one place before. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Okay, Fearless Leader, when IS the next one? Here's the list:

Upcoming Pen Posses: Westfield Mall/Xmas Shopping; Peter's Cafe, Millbrae; Santa Cruz

Remember, Thursdays are bad for ParkerBeta, swim days. How about a Tuesday or Wednesday night? Or a weekend? We should probably start a new thread...

Feared leader would be more like it. You did see what she did with the MB, right?

Tuesday bad. Wednesday good. Weekend better.

Okay, let's pick a date and start a thread. Let's start with Peter's Cafe in Millbrae, invite Nicolai so we can steer his pen-acquisition according to our extensive experience. That shouldn't be confusing at all.

Also, Peter's Cafe will be closing for good soon, so let's get some hamburgers and French fries while we can!

We can do Westfield Mall maybe first or second week of December...?

Let me just pick a date for Peter's in Millbrae, then... how about this Saturday? (*Laughs*)

I have to show up for jury duty tomorrow, Wednesday's a holiday, Thursday is something I can't remember, Friday... Friday is the new Monday, how's Saturday? Unless you're going to Fairfield for the Pan Pacific Pen Club meeting, in which case how about Sunday? This weekend. Lunch time. For hamburgers and nibbly things.

Yes? No? Start a new thread? Sayan? Can you make it? Ricky? New pens? Breaking that $30K barrier? Lucia? HAMBURGERRRRRS! Todd, with Mrs Todd and Baby Todd? Mark? Kernan? Kevin? Too far? We've got Westfield Mall coming up, tentatively, in a couple of, few weeks. Deirdre with your fab pen chest?! Newbies and lurkers? Hello?

Hello?

Wednesday the holiday can work for me, if that's better for most'a youse. Let's Posse!

Saturday would be bad. Lisa wouldn't want us to miss Jelly Belly factory visit with PPPC, would she? Nooooooo!

Millbrae is a bit far and Saturday is rather soon. I may pass on the 2nd November meeting and saddle up again for December.

It seems to me that this Saturday will be spent at work :( So no Jelly Belly or Peter's Cafe for me, alas! [big deadline coming up on Monday, so maybe Saturday and Sunday will be spent at work!]

What is this "soon" thing everyone speaks of? smile.gif

For me it's wife not liking I am gone having fun and leaving her with the kids. LOL. So, I space these things out to soften the impact, ha. ha.

Kevin,

Bring the kids--I'll bring some pens they can't hurt and a calligraphy book they can try a lesson or two.

Saturday bad, very bad for us bridge members. (Those of us that Posse and PPPC)

I figured, thought I'd throw that out, cos you know, PETER'S CAFE IS CLOSING FOREVER one of these days. (Laughs.)

Okay. Let's confer about a better day and time.

When IS Peter's Cafe closing anyway?

Where'd you get the info they were closing?

The city master plan intends to build another round of condos and retail all along the East side of El Camino starting at Millbrae Ave and running North two blocks. It would be a hot topic in the little berg of Millbrae but it is being kept somewhat quiet as there is a hold out property owner and the economy tanked. But it will happen. Peter owns two other fine eating establishments in town so it won't go completely away.

Ahhh, well, I guess we should get in the way of progress, what with our fountain pens and all....

Alas, I would not be able to make this Saturday as well. The next Saturday is the one before Thanksgiving. The one after that during that "four-day Thanksgiving weekend." I would be up for one the Saturday before. Otherwise, I'll wait for Pen Posse Food Court in December. Giddy-up!

I subscribe to The Rule of 10 (pens, that is)

1) Parker Sonnet 1st gen 2) Pelikan 200 yellow 3) Parker 51 vac 4) Esterbrook trans J 5) Esterbrook LJ "Bell System Property" 6) Sheaffer Snorkel Valiant fern green 7) Waterman 52.5V 8) Parker 75 cisele 9) open 10) open (I'm hankering for a Doric)

This Saturday seems not to be the best day.

I agree with MsL that if we meet again in November, the weekend before Thanksgiving works better than meeting during the 'weekend of doom'.

Saturday was already a bad date for PPPC, as it's the Arizona game. Of course next weekend is worse for more people, as it's Big Game.

At Flax, I saw that PCOC, the Pacific Coast Origami Conference, was that weekend. It reminded me that Bolinas Museum has an exhibit ending this weekend. Is anybody else into origami, and enough to come up here to see it Sunday? I was surprised that Bolinas had a museum. It's only open weekends till 5 and it's way out there but it's free.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
