Portland Pen Show - Countdown

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

It's 10 almost 9 days until the Portland Pen Show! We're all fired up here, and it's not too late to get in on it! :-)

Check out http://www.PortlandPenShow.com if you want to attend.

The show has increased significantly in size this year, small by some standards, but it's well... intimate. There are always more than enough great pens to go around, both modern and vintage. I heard that Visconti will be represented at the show this year.

Our good friends from the Pendemonium crew and the Ink-Pen East & West crew will be in attendance. If you need a little nib straightening, John Mottishaw will be here. And Just4thehalibut (misspelled), Saul Kitchener is coming. As is our favorite "Wahlnut" from Pensbury Manor. I believe Go Pens, Gary and Myrna Lehrer, will be in attendance again this year. Lots of folks will be here from B.C. and across the U.S. once more. Also many whom will be first time attendees and dealers to this show. I don't have the most current updated list, so I don't know who all is coming. I do know a good time is always had by all. I am never sure how the local curiosity seekers feel about the show, it's hard to get a smile out them. But I guess that's just the nature of curiosity seekers! :-)

A big hit at the Portland shows, in the past, have always been the outstanding, fantabulous, receptions MMMM, mmmmm, mmm! I can’t wait! ;-)

I also heard there will be another major story on the Portland Pen Show in the Oregonian newspaper this year.

If you would like to attend and run into a problem along the way, and need help, you can always contact carla_mortensen@hotmail.com The hotel and other info can be found on the link for the Portland Pen Show website, above.

It was a wonderful 78 degrees F. here today. I can't guarantee that for the 14th, 15th, and 16th of July, but the weather has been pleasant the last couple of years.

I think there will be seminars, I just haven't seen the line-up on them.

I feel like I'm leaving something out, which I probably am, but I'd just like to say, we hope many of you reading this can attend the 2006 Portland Pen Show!

Happy ink trails!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
