Hi, I am going to review to Safari in red. Since this is my first review, I decided to review this first, since there are many others out there. I don't have a camera, so here is a picture from Lamy USA.

Lamy Safari

I will post my own shortly. So lets start the review

First Impressions 7/10
The reason I take points off is that I was surprised by how small its packaging was and also the presentation factor is not nearly as good as my other pens. Still I like it very much, as small is also more portable, but the gray case isn't the most durable. All in all, this barely affects the pens overall rating.

Appearance and Design 13/15
This is a large pen, but surprisingly light for it's size. The pen has a very modern design, and a cool clip. It looks durable and not flashy, and I like it because it isn't not something kids would steal in school. I love the ink window, and it comes in rich colors. The pen is made from ABS plastic

Quality and Construction 12/15
The quality of this pen is nice, and it feels solid. If I drop it with the cap on, it will only make some ink go on to the nib. If I drop it uncapped, I feel confident it will survive.

Weight 10/10
Perfect for me capped or not. Great weight, just love it.

Nib and Performance 18/20
Perfect, best fine nibbed pen I have, I just love to write with it. It is the perfect pen to use for notes, homework or any job. It writes like butter, espicially when you find the not so hard to find sweet spot. When I find this, I never want to stop writing. One of my best writers, only pen that I own that writes decisively better is the Parker 65, but that is a broad. I will update this when i get my new pens in a few weeks.

Filling System 5/10
The Cartridge/Converter system is one of my favorite filling systems, but the reason for the low ranking is that it doesn't come with a converter (minor), Lamy makes there own cartridges(major) and I don't like Lamy cartridge ink(medium for me)

Value 20/20
Value is something important to me, and this pen is one value! Maybe the best on the market today. For around 35 USD, you can get this pen with a converter, and you won't be sorry. No affilition, but if you want this pen, isellpens.com has it for 24 with a converter, one of the best deals I have found.
Overview: Every Fountain Pen owner should buy this pen, or at least have owned it once
Overall Rating: 85 out of 100

I agree -- for the price it definitely rates at least 85.
I have a few pens, but this is the one that is reliable enough to be my red-ink pen at work. I use it every day. (It's yellow; maybe I should get a red one?)

Thanks for the review; always glad to read others' opinions of this great, yet inexpensive pen. For the longest time I wouldn't touch one with a ten-foot pole. Hated its looks (What's up with that funky clip?). Bought one just for the heck of it -- 23 bucks. Fell in love with it! Now I "get it."

Enjoyed reading your thoughtful review.

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

This is a large pen

Forgive my density, but I'm a bit confused by this. When I read your statement about being surprised at how small it is I wondered what kind of huge pens you have, because I would never consider the Safari a small pen. Then your next category speaks of it being a large pen, so you must be speaking about something other than the pen in the first category. The box it came in? Maybe since I bought mine used I didn't have the same first impression if I had bought it new.

Thanks for your review, I agree it is a great value pen. My F nib Safari writes wonderfully with Private Reserve Tanzanite.

I guess I should consider myself fortunate that both the styling and grip work for me because I really would hate for something like that to ruin such a great functioning and great valued pen.

Nice review. Just one important point to remember is that the Safari has interchangeable nibs so if you were to drop it on the nib and it ruins, it is very easily replaced and not expensive. The same can be said for most lamy pens although not so easy with a gold nib.

i know that is one of the best parts of the pen, and you can have multiple nibs just to be used
