Can you recommend a pen shop in London?

Hello

I've just found this amazing website! So helpful and informative. :D

I need to ask your help!

Do any members know of any trustworthy people/shops in London that I could go to to get them identified/valued and sold? I'm concerned about being conned.

I have four pens that I want to identify/value/sell. I know nothing about pens at all. I believe that they are Parker 51s (??). I've had them for ages and have just realised that they may have some value and would like to sell them.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

If you can post pictures then I am sure that there are enough of us in the UK and nearby who could help you.

There are a number of people that buy pens in London, but they really deal in the high end stuff, so my advice is to get an idea about what you have got before you go.

If you think they are "51"s, then there are a load of internet sites including eBay that would give you an idea.

You could go and see Henry Simpole (Henry the Penman) in the Admiral Vernon on Portobello Road every Saturday (tell him Andy the Dinkie lover sent you!!).

There are other dealers around there too but I know Henry quite well and I'm sure he'll give you honest advice.

I agree you should do some preliminary research by checking out some internet sites, though.

Post some photos here. The advice you'll get will be unbiased and you can cross check it against a dealer. At least one of the worlds greatest 51 experts posts here, and you'll be able to verify anything said to you using the Net. It probably isn't worth seeing a dealer unless you have anything really rare, and then you'll want to go in already informed.

You might also want to try Penfried. They've two shops, one in the Burlington Arcade off Picadilly and the other in Bush House at Aldwych.

Might not be the best place to sell to (I've only ever bought from them!). But worth visting if you're in London. The shop in Bush House was the former Parker Pen HQ.

Beware prices at Penfriend, do your research before attempting to buy or sell vintage pens there. Remember, they have to pay for the upkeep of a swanky London address somehow!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
