Sf Bay Area Pen Posse

I'll be there. About Saturday, I totally suck, thought it was 1/29 until about an hour ago. Boo. Missed the Posse.

Note that I will miss most of Saturday at the show as I'm meeting up with some old coworkers and doing some fun stuff that's not pen related in the slightest.

Fess up. You were configuring your new iPad.

Sadly, I still haven't seen one in person.

Hi, Teri. We'd mentioned a Pen Posse Santa Cruz a couple of months ago, but with the holidays and WINTER, the idea was tabled until warmer weather. But I'm definitely in for a Pen Posse Santa Cruz, and I believe there's another person in the Santa Cruz area who inquired. If you have any ideas for a good place we could meet there, let us know!

My friend's distillery is in Soquel in the Santa Cruz mountains. Pens and alcohol.

I'd like to be kept in the loop myself. I'm a SC Mtns girl. But I won't be available until mid march. I prefer the Ugly Mug in Soquel for funky coffee house meetings.

Dear fountain pen lovers at the Bay Area,

This is Chen-li from Taiwan. I'm visiting Berkeley this summer for a month and would like to participate in any gathering (if there is one). It would be awesome to have some interaction with local members and share thoughts. I didn't bring my whole flock though, only have three German vintage pens and two Iroshizuku ink bottles with me.

So do let me know if there is any get-together in late July or early August. I look forward to meeting you. Thank you.

Wow! You dug up a pretty old thread. We just had the meeting in Santa Cruz (finally)!

Our next meeting is Aug. 14th.

Here's the thread.

There is also the Penopoly BBQ this Saturday (July 24th) in Castro Valley.

I see a couple of references to a Penopoly BBQ. Where in Castro Valley is it being held? What time? Is there any special focus to the get together? Is it open invite? Was there a more detailed post on FPN or elsewhere?

Look on FaceBook under Penopoly. The time is 2:00 PM this Saturday. The address is on the FaceBook invitation. Carmen Rivera also has the same announcement on her Pens page on FaeBook. You just need to RSVP;it's basically open. Let me know if you can't find it. Roger is holding these every quarter. The last one was in March. There will be prime rib, a potato bar, open bar, etc. Plenty of pens to see. All of Roger's stuff plus the pens Carmen is bringing up from LA. I'm bringing the infamous Cheese and Potato Pie plus some other goodies.

Looks like Ron did not put a general announcement on any of the pen boards.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
