I may regret asking, but what is a "snorklefest"? /Craig

Think Pen Posse Snorkel. Ms Loathsome has a Snork that will make some of our local pen people Green with envy.

Ah, not a link. Highlight the space between the colon and the period to show the hidden clue (which I wrote in "white" font, to blend into the background). Tricky, hah? Haaah?

(Or, while cursor is in the message box, press Ctrl-A to select all, and then the word will appear after "clue: .")

Ah ha! I see said the blind man. That really was clever Lisa! I also love snorkels and am relieved to now know that "snorklefest" is not some sort of pen posse bar room ritual. (although that wouldn't be bad either) /Craig

October 17th works better for me, because October 10th I'll be doing Open Studios. If the entire Pen Posse wants to come to my studio and check out pen drawings and look at my collection of rapidographs and dip pens, I'd love that (2425 17th Street, studio #13 in SF) but I won't be able to make it out.

Who are the pen shops in your neighborhood? Find out or tell us where they are, at http://penshops.info/

Can newbies show up to these things? I have a grand total of (1) Tuckaway to carry in with me... it would be fun to bring my camera...

I vote the 17th. More time to acquire pens for the Pen Posse.

I want to see what kind of small pens Winedoc's going to come up with. I think we all need pocket Urushi pens.

Pocket Urushi! I like the sound of that!! Anyway, the 17th looks good!

OK. We've got the date nailed down (Oct 17th) and the time (5:30PM). That leaves us with the location. Three nominees so far:

  1.
  2. Splicer's work place on 17th in SF (2425 17th Street, studio #13) {There is something compelling about meeting AT 17th Street ON the 17th. If we do, there have to be 17 of us who each bring 17 pens. But that's another neurosis. Monk? Monk are you there?}
  3. The Golden Bowl (Chinese Restaurant 10675 San Pablo Ave El Cerrito)
  4. Jack's
(If that is the Jack-in-the-Box its at 10409 San Pablo Ave El Cerrito.) I can't find a Jack's restaurant in Yelp.
  5. Other. If someone has a better idea - put it out there.

I like the idea of meeting at Splicer's so we can actually see him for a change. :)

Holy c*** Batman, Ethernautrix is performing magic tricks with online forum formatting! That was cool.

Yes, in addition to my fern green Snork, Kernando has a few unusual ones as well. I think a mandarin orange? and a periwinkle?

@lssmith42: Newbies are most welcome to Pen Posse. Though we like to smack talk and tout our exclusivity, especially in comparison to wanna-be posses in other parts of the country, it's just a front. Everybody is very friendly. (Shh. You didn't hear nuttin' here.)

Consider this your formal invitation to show up for this and any other Pen Posse. While I'm at it, I'll invite you to Pen Posse Splicer Studio. (See above.)

Now about that late in the evening thing....I got a 1 yr old so afternoon is better, much better.

*Sigh* I miss you, MsLoathsome! Saw your friend, Nato Green, at "That Sucks" comedy night at the Purple Onion recently. He was a hit! Hey, we got T-shirts, too! Thus, "been there, done that, got the T-shirt." Life ain't real 'til you've lived the cliche, "amiright?!"

I'd prefer mid-day, meself, Pen Possiers. Easier to get around on a bike (should I pedal over). I think the evening was a better option for Deirdre on 10/3, maybe not an issue on 10/17. Splicer's Open Studio is 10/10.

Want to meet at a PEN STORE? Say in Berkeley? Cos that area has plenty of cafes and restaurants... and a pen store. (Highlight: Castle In the Air.) Whaddya say? Hah? Hah? Wanna call this one Pen Posse Bizerkley? Does that work?

Todd, that Estie nib is still clogged (the one you diagnosed at Pen Posse Millbrae). Do you have a sonic thing that can fix that problem? Soaking it for a month and a half in a vinegar-water solution didn't work. *Sigh* Such a pretty blue Estie, completely useless without a nib....

Splicer's workplace is a great idea. If only he were in Studio#17! Anyway, if that's not possible for some reason, then the Golden Bowl sounds appetizing!

I don't care where we meet, so long as we do meet! It's been too long without my Posse fix.

Actually, we've met in pen stores before and, speaking as someone who literally can't stand long, and I'd like to see Splicer at one of these, so how about his digs (if he's willing to have us in there).

Dang. 10/10 sounds cool and it's the by (bye?) week. 10/17 I'll miss along with Deirdre (I never knew anybody spelled it dierdre, that looks silly) be leaving for the other, NW corner of the country. I might not be back the 24th either. Going to Splicer is a good idea for that day. We just have to have several posses this season.

We need noobs because they bring pens that are noo to us.

Not that you guys are going there soon, but it's Jack's Asian Bistro or some funny name like that. I think it was north of Nation's.

Does Berkeley have anything other than Castle? Does the east bay have any other pen store? I wish I had shopped more at Amsterdam Art.

PPPC Jelly Belly is the day of the UA game.

For Snorkelfest (does anybody know the German for that?) there's Mandarin, Periwinkle, stub if you're careful with the sticker on the section, junky Autograph, engraved Signature, plain old Statesman, and now chrome if you're careful with the chalkmark.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
