Great Deals At Artlite In Atlanta -

I visited Artlite in Atlanta this past weekend (no affiliation, but frequent customer), and was pleased with their selection of "open box" pens. The back half of the pen island has open box pens that are deeply discounted and come w/o box, papers, etc. But their range of pens is outstanding, and this weekend seemed to have more high caliber pens (or at least pens in which I personally was interested) than previously. A very cursory listing of pens I was excited about include: M805 (blue striped); M1000 (green); the new tortoise M400; the new blue M205 demo; sailor pro gear ebonite (red/black); sailor king pro; a few sailor pro gears w/ interesting nibs (one music I believe); nice OMAS pens; Waterman Edson silver; many Montblanc pens (including some LEs, with which I am not too familiar); sailor ribbed (orange LE); and many many others. The pen case is probably 50-60% FPs; the remaining pens split between rollerballs and ballpoints.

I really appreciate the service and caring attention provided by the folks at Artlite. I encourage those in, or coming through, the area to make a visit.

Brian

Oh, you would have to post that. ;)

It's nice to know a sale is on.

I've been thinking of splurging and going there to buy a bottle of ink....

Just might have to drive into town.

It's a long time until the pen show in the spring. :)

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

I should clarify that Artlite is not having any special sale (as far as I know), but that their typical offering of open box pens just seems to have a very nice selection.

Can you give an example or two of pricing like on the 805 you mentioned and one or two others if you remember them?

I bought my first Aurora Optima from them as a salesman's demo pen, same I am sure as this open box stock. That was over 11 years ago, and it is still a favorite daily writer.

I used to love going to Artlite when I was traveling to Atlanta for work regularly years ago. They always had a great selection and very friendly and helpful sales staff.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
