What a great collection of demonstrators you've got. I'm not into them, but can surely appreciate them - especially in such great photos. I like the frosted Stipula Etruria (even if I would prefer silver trims to go with it) - I've never seen that frosted plastic on a pen before.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up one of those when World Lux had them on clearance for $100. I didn't know what they were then, much less that the older pens from OMAS are the only well-made ones. Beautiful pen you've got there, enjoy it.

Hi Tsujigirl ! Are you implying that modern Omas pens are not well-made ? Please clarify.

Thanks, Tsujigirl. I feel like the luckiest person, having this pen. A friend offered it to me in a trade, and it's been a favorite writer ever since. I doubt you'll ever see these at that World Lux close-out price ever again, but one or two seem to find their way to the sale boards most years.

Yeah, I got a new Paragon, and the quality was horrible. It fell apart after a couple of weeks, so I sent it back to OMAS. But they took almost 6 months to send me another defective pen as a replacement, so I finally returned it and promised myself never to buy a new OMAS again (until they improve the quality, at least).

Very nice Demos, thanks to all for sharing your pictures.

I only had one, a Dollar in clear & blue, just gave it a new home to a missionary that had never before used a fountain pen, figured what better way to learn about them that to actually see how it works inside.

Here's my old Dollar Demo, filled with Noodler's Blue Ghost invisible ink while underneath a bright UV light source, taken back when I was reviewing the ink and not the pen as such...

http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu56/InkaFX/-Pen--N-BG-ink.jpg

I have a half-dozen or more Platinum Preppy Eye-Dropper conversions that came free with 4.5oz Noodler's ink purchases, don't really consider them demonstrators but I guess they too semi-fit the title.

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
