TIP: Wal-mart sells dispensing syringes/needles over the counter-

I noticed the other day that at least here in North Central Florida, Wal-mart sells a dispensing syringe with a blunt plastic "needle" on the end of it

for less than $2 IIRC. It's on the shelf where the infant medical supplies are, not even behind the pharmacy counter.

My Target pharmacy has given me a small number of syringes in varying sizes. They don't have needles of any type, but are useful in measuring out small quanities of liquids. I've never ask if they have some sort of plastic needle, but if I need a new one, I think I'll ask.

The plastic needles are especially handy for reloading cartridges, section loading an Estie or using the Peartree sample vials to load a converter.

A CVS pharmacy in my area sells disposable syringes with a SHARP needle for $0.11 US each. Not that I need or use the sharp needle particularly. But I can buy a handful of syringes for filling cartridges, use until problem occurs, and break the needle, dispose of. All for practically nothing.

Hmmm ... Ecofriendly? Maybe I will have to rethink this practice.

The Target in my area carries a bulb syringe in the infant medical supplies that costs about $2.00 and is very useful for pushing fluids through the nib of a C/C type pen. Cuts cleaning time on most C/C pens to just a few minutes. Recommend it for anyone who regularly cleans C/C pens.

Enjoy,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I checked my local Wal-Mart. It has two syringe kits with plastic "adapters" that look like funnels, but none with blunt needles. Perhaps the next time you're there you could get the brand/model, item number, etc. off the package. Thanks.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I use a one ounce ear bulb for that. But what I do first is sacrifice a cartridge by cutting off the closed end. To clean out a c/c fountain pen I put the surgically altered cartridge in the pen and then fit the tip of the ear syringe into the other end, which is wider and can accommodate the ear syringe's tip. This allows the full pressure developed by the syringe to go coursing through the ink channel. Fountain pens that still show some ink color in the outflow after three ounces of this treatment really have a lot of dried out ink in them. So I'll soak them and repeat the ear syringe water blast.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

For those traveling to Japan, you can find syringe and blunt metal needles in any Tokyu Hands department store in the science section. They work great!

Well drat. Seems I led yall astray. Bookman is 100% correct, the Wally Whurl syringes DON'T have the dispensing needles on them.

So, you might try either the CVS suggestion (if your state laws allow them to sell them there) OR here; https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...howtopic=108038 I have a couple of these, they're a bit pricier but the hassle quotent is really low in getting them too. They DO have the dispensing needles on them.

And, Bookman, since I led you astray and feel bad that you made a trip to Wally Whurl based on what I told you, tell you what I'm gonna do. If you promise not to stick yourself or a Waterman 52 sac or mainline any Baystate Blue with it, backchannel me your snail mail and I'll send you a freebers

one with a real needle on it. Sorry 'bout that man.

So does Meijers if you have them near you. I buy needles for my cat there.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

  • 4 years later...

So glad I searched for this topic here. Like they ("Who's they?") always say, "always search before starting a new topic".

Will be looking in my neck of the woods for these things soon.

Here's another tip ...

Depending on where you are, you can find syringes for animals. Might have a bore problem, but just tossing that out. We had a guy try to break into a farming supply store to steal some of those for shooting up drugs. Of course, I live in an area that has pretty heavy-duty ag activity and pretty heavy-duty drug activity.

Wow, a CVS willing to sell sharp needles. Do they have druggies line up for that? Sorry, that's the snarky drug-prosecutor coming out in me. One trip to that CVS and you could have a complete meth "banging" kit all in one stop.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
