Ok, sit in your sofa, put your foot in the center table, cross your hands back of your head, close you eyes......

Now tell me....¿which is the best of the best Esterbrook nib ever? ( just one).

Greetings from México.

I haven't tried them all yet, but of the ones I've tried my favorite by far is the 9048. It's just stiff enough to use as a daily writer, but it's got enough flex to really do some cool things. The 2314-M is a close second.

I'm a medium kind of guy and if I could have just one (which would mean it would have to last) I'd pick a 9668. <But even then I'd probably have it CI'd>

Of the few I've tried so far I like the mediums best so I'd wind up going with one of the mediums most likely. Then again I haven't tried a broad yet and may like that even better than medium once I give it a try.

Support the entire Constitution, not just the parts you like.

Thanks Scutterday I almost knew that the first one to appear is the 9048. Mr. Brian Anderson has one

maybe I call him this week. Greetings from México.

+1 for 9048. I went on a tear early on and got a lot of different ones (and overpaid for them before I knew better). 9048 is the best all around writer, pretty good flex. (While I thought the 9128 would be killer, but ended up sort of over-rated in my mind/hands).

Thanks Bruce, I have the 9968, I failed just by one number. Seriously, ¿what does CI'd mean?.

Thanks any way, I like your opinion. Greetings from México.

I have not met a Renew Point that I couldn't be happy with or give away.

Clever and diplomatic Todd, but now tell me, ¿which one is your Esterbrook preferred nib?.

If limited to Renew points, then it is the 2442.

However, I prefer pretty much any relief nib to any renew point.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
