I have agreed to organise a pen posse for Melbourne Pen Show goers in October on the day before the Show.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to PM or post to this thread your ideas, desires, names and details so that I can organise something to meet most preferences. This will include a dinner where the obligatory pens, inks etc will be taken out and oohed and ahhhed; as well as shopping (not limited to pens) and a little sight seeing.

OK, there it is.

This message will not self-destruct..... :happyberet:

I assume you meant sight seeing as opposed to site seeing =P. As I mentioned in the other thread, I'll be there is my funds and assessment timetable permit =)

:P Clearly too much netting for me!

Details will go up here once we've got all our numbers and ideas together.

For the five of you coming so far that's great - but still no ideas about what you're after!!!! At this stage it's dinner only on Saturday night unless you start throwing some "wants" at me!!!!

I've never been to a pen show or a pen posse - so am an absolute newbie with this - but I'd love some time to have a look at pens others have brought.........FPN people I mean - will we be able to do this at dinner?

I'm also a stranger to Melbourne - but will have Soki tied to my right wrist I hope!!!

I hope others chime in with good suggestions - cos I'm flying blind here!!!

Sooo looking forward to it..........but will probably end up a gibbering wreck with the sheer excitement of it all.

Not sure where I can take people who are tied together by the wrist...hellraisers club maybe?

I've only been to one posse before, and we met at a local pen shop and then went to others, followed by lunch, sight seeing and more pens. (lots of pen looking - including our own!) Looking forward to showing you the sights.

Melburnians are pretty hospitable people.

I am sure there will be a good turnout at the show and any dinner during.

Those of you who are interested in our little Pen Association please contact me - it might be a touch late for tonite's meeting, but...........

If you do see this in time.

Hello Brian, would love to have you at the dinner! Have been contacted by the organiser of the Show and he is keen for details to add people too, so we should have a healthy number!

I'm finalising venue (has to be pretty flexible as the numbers are somewhat vague); and will post here when I have the details. I'm writing down each of you have said you're interested so that I can PM you and I will also notify the Melbourne Pen Show organisers to make sure the word is out.

It should be lots of fun.

OK.

Here it is - and we ain't hijacking the pen show or the evening before..........

But we will participate in the evening and at last night's meeting we thought we would suggest that we find a place near to the show and where there is good food and a quite room for the dinner and get together. (Need bright lights for most of us too ;-)

Our group meets at the Tower Hotel in Hawthorn on the first Monday (or the next if there are calendar hassles) of every even month.

Dinner 6:30 to 7:30

Speaker or discussion or general mess from 7:30 to about 9:30.

We don't have an official name because we deliberately keep this as a loose arrangement for all the legal and insurance reasons that Australia throws at us.

It all revolves round an email list and a bit of word of mouth.

We try to get guest speakers for most meetings and have had calligraphy, a religious scribe, a pen turner and a shop manager talking recently.

I have approached various folk on FPN and there seem to be more than I thought in the Melbourne area, but none have latched onto us yet - we hope that changes soon (Shangas where are you and who are you - plus others - come out come out wherever you are ;-)

Email me or PM your details - or call me 0414 575 550

OK, numbers growing nicely. So far have 10 coming. Some from NSW, SA and TAS, one from Albury, and a couple of Victorians. Narrowing down venue for dinner, but will probably need definites so I can book the right space. I may have to book for a set number and take it on a first come first serve basis (priority to interstaters); but we'll see.

During the day, I'm thinking we start at Pen City, move down to Tafts and then off to Notemaker for some Rhodia in time for a trip to Zetta in Brunswick Street (beautiful stationary) before lunch at Mario's (a Melbourne institution) and then free for general meandering/shopping in brunswick street, more shopping meandering down in Chapel Street or St Kilda with time then to wander off to dinner in Richmond.

How is this sounding to people?

It's sounding like too, too much fun. :(

I certianly won't be able to make it now, work has asked me to attend a conference in Darwin that conflicts with the Pen Show. :crybaby:

One day, Mate, one day...

I'm thinking of starting a thread to see if any FPN members in and around Brisvegas may be interested in a Pen Posse.

I write, therefore I...write a little more.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
