Which ebay?

Hi all

I started following ebay with the U.K. branch and have been pretty satisfied, specifically because the postage from Britian is far cheaper than that from the States.

Which of the two branches, U.S. or U.k. is better for somebody who is not resident in either of the countries?

Much bigger choice on older pens with .com but some US sellers sometimes limit the sale to US only.

Some P and P US charges can be extreme, such as $30 for a single pen.

Others, by contrast, very modest, $4 for a boxed FP/MP

More likely to find mint and boxed in the US

What Arthur said plus keep in mind that now it is possible to launch "international" queries from ebay by selecting "in the world" in the "location" section at the bottom left of the page. It is also possible to restrict the results by distance of the object from you.

To me ebay US is a paradise whose snakes are the lenght of the shipment an the possibility that the custom will catch the item and keep it for ages..

I'm in the UK and I've always searched 'worldwide' although sometimes now I limit my searches to Europe as p&p costs from the US to the UK are getting to the stage where many purchases just aren't viable any more, with the costs of shipping sometimes far outstripping the valuie of the pen...... :(

The "world" search, in a way, also works as a filter, grabbing those auctions where the seller will ship to you -- I'm pretty sure as determined by the value of "ships to". This is both good and bad. Good because it filters out the extraneous auctions that are deemed by seller as off limits.

Bad if the seller hasn't properly listed the "ships to" field; I've seen a number of US auctions where the auction states that international shipping is o.k., but the "ships" is flagged as US only. These auctions won't appear in a "world" (or even "Europe") search.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
