Okay, I'm a firm believer that every fountain pen has a story to tell. Every scratch, dent, ding, ink stain and finger print tells has something to say. Unfortunately, these poor creatures are rather mute and can't tell these stories. So as a token of good will, I've decided to bundle up one of these pens with a journal and send it on a little journey. Along the way, the pen will be needing accomodation and that's where you, fellow FPN-ers come in.

The idea here is that the fountain pen (and its accompanying journal) stays with each participant for about a week before being shipped off to the next participant. During that week, please write in the journal with the pen about whatever you want. What you've done, some lecture notes (if you must), poems, random musings, film reviews, etc.

For the sake of keeping transfer costs to a bare minimum, I'm going to limit participation to Australian residents only (sorry to everyone else!). The only thing we need now are a suitable pen (preferably something reasonably cheap and robust) and a notebook (something small but with a reasonable number of pages). I have a red Estie I could donate to the cause, but it only has a 9550 nib (extra fine firm) and I was hoping to send somethig with a bit more character. As for the notebook, I have absolutely no idea. Any suggestions/donations for a pen and/or a notebook welcome.

So, who's interested?

I'm interested. I have just joined this week and live in Sydney. For a note book something from say Penfolds stationers with a nice cover might be affordable. I just bought a Moleskine Ruled Cahier Journal from them this week. What about a Moleskine Ruled Notebook, small size?
Sorry I can't offer a pen, I only own one Lamy Linea/ST.

I live in the western part of Sydney. I might pop into WC Penfolds the next time i'm in the city.

Hi

Hopefully no-one else but aussies will read this ... I see this "bump" everywhere, especially on sales sections. What the hell is bump?
It's probably obvious but not to me :-)

Oh, well the way the forums work, the threads with fresh replies move to the top of the list so the older ones tend to get pushed further back into pages where most people really don't bother scrolling to. A bump is just a way of adding a fresh reply and bringing the thread back to the upper order.

And I think I will take you up on that offer, Feiye.

Hey, great idea! include Melbourne on your list - I'll be in! ninja.gif I'll even donate a Lamy Safari to the cause (just an EF nib though, nothing outrageous)

Okay, we now have a virtually indestructible fountain pen and a notebook. Now all we need is a few more participants ^^.

Hi all

Well we have enough participants now. By the time we each have the book and pen for a week and pass it on it will be a few weeks and more might join by then.
I'd say start the ball rolling, or should I say start the ink flowing :-)

I'll throw my hat into this ring. I'm in SE Qld. PM me with the details you'll need.

BTW, a better forum for threads like this to appear in would be The Write Stuff. Most travelling journals tend to start (and end) there so you'll get better coverage of the readership.

I'm also willing to donate a backup pen if necessary. I've got a collection of Sheaffer Cartridge Pens and a spare converter. Not the most exciting pen, but it's reliable, light in weight, and I won't cry a river if Aus Post redirects it to the Never-Never.

Note: don't forget to empty the pen prior to posting to the next person. Never ship a pen with ink in it! (Unless, of course, you want to provide the next recipient with some accidental ink-blot art. smile.gif )
I write, therefore I...write a little more.

why don't we all use our own pens and ink so we can see some colours of inks and how different pens write?

Interesting suggestion. Anybody else in favour of this or would everyone prefer the travelling pen?

And Jim, I'vew always got room for another Novocastrian =)
