Pittsburgh Pen People

Recommended Posts

I know there are at least 5 people on fpn that post semi-regularly and are from pittsburgh, one of which can not be more than a mile away from me.

So, is anyone interested in a meet/get together? I would say at least 3 people for security reasons (I trust you guys, but it is still stupid), and preferable 4 or 5.

I wouldn't mind (I am around the southside), however I don't have many pens and the two nice ones I have are being repaired and having a nib changed.

I'm about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh. I drive the same distance for Central PA pen meetings in Harrisburg so distance (usually) isn't a problem.

I'm in Pittsburgh, but I've only got two fountain pens (one currently - my Namiki VP has been shipped out for repairs.) I'm in the area however - though bugger me if I can find any place to go drool over pens. Weldin's in downtown has ridiculous hours, and the stationery store in Shadyside only has a few Lamy's for sale. I'd love to hear if there are any other local stores that sell fountain pens or the like. :)

Ditto! Thank goodness for the internet! There is not one good place to shop for fountain pens!

Hi, fellow Picksburger!

Yeah, I've been a fountain pen enthusiast for a few years. I've heard from a couple of sources that a store is opening up in Shadyside that will sell (or is already selling) fountain pens. I'm not talking about Kards Unlimited, though that store does have a few FPs in stock. Have you heard about that new store I'm talking about?

More to the point, if at the present time there is anything going on in Pittsburgh having to do with FPs, please let me know. I'm interested.

By the way, while searching (via Google) for that new store online, one of the search results provided a link to your post here on Fountain Pen Network, where I've been a member for a few years. I haven't posted in quite awhile, however. Come to think of it, your having posted your query over seven years ago might mean you're no longer in the 'burgh!

I'm in Pittsburgh too and would love to meet up! A few of us tried to get something together last year around this time (or was it '14?) but it came to naught. I'd be up to try again, though!

I'll stay on top of this topic and try to keep my schedule somewhat open. Weekend afternoons tend to be good lately, particularly Sundays, but I'm certainly open to other times. Let's do this!

We have a pen club that meets on the 3rd Wednesday every month. Here's the announcement on FPN for the June meeting. Even though a number of people were out of town, we still had about 12 people at the meeting - and are looking a space to meet that will handle more. So far we've met at the the Panera at Bakery Square, and the one on the Boulevard of the Allies.

Send Joshua an email or PM, and he will add you to the email list

Check out the threads for Steel City Nibs/Pittsburgh Pen Club.

Our last meeting was a week ago. We generally hang out monthly at the Panera Breads in Bakery Square, but did try the Panera in Oakland a couple of times because that location has a back room. I think there were plans to try something further east (and maybe on a weekend) to do a get together with the group in the Harrisburg area, but I don't think anything definite has happened there.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
